Jerilyn Boone

JACKSON n Jerilyn Eula Gay Boone, 72, died April 16, 2008 at Hampton Woods Nursing Home.

was conducted Friday at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. Robert Hill. Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, was in charge.

Mrs. Boone was a legal secretary, before her retirement and worked for Felton Turner in Jackson.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald W. Boone; her daughter, Evelyn Boone Elliott of Jackson; a sister, Alice Sewell of West Virginia, Va.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Levonia G. Lewis

NORFOLK, Va. – Levonia Garner &uot;Tiny&uot; Lewis, 69, a native of Gaston, died April 10, 2008, at Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk.

Mrs. Lewis retired from the Norfolk Public School System and was a member of the Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Christopher Wayne Garner of Portsmouth; two stepdaughters, Sabrina Jones of Norfolk and Valerie Neal of Virginia Beach; four stepsons, John J. Lewis Jr. of Greensboro, Ricardo Lewis of Norfolk, Cornell Lewis of Richmond, Va., and Calvin Lewis of Chesapeake; three sisters, Earlean Delancy of Portsmouth, Lucille Thomas and Eula Highe of Emporia; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Homegoing services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Cool Spring Missionary Baptist Church, 120 Cherry St., (Highway 46), Gaston. Coleman Funeral Home, 776 Highway 301, Garysburg, is in charge.

Elton Bynum

PONTIAC, MI – Elton &uot;Jabo&uot; Bynum, a native of Roxobel, died April 12, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Mercy Oakland Hospital in Pontiac.  

Bynum was employed as a counselor with Transitions Recovery.

Survivors include one daughter, Jasmine Perry of Colerain; and two sisters, Wanda Blanding of Roanoke Rapids and Anna Jefferson of

Littleton.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hunter’s Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie by Rev. Jarvis Parker.  Burial will be in the Severn First Baptist Church cemetery.

Joyce G. Modlin

SUNBURY – Joyce Greene Modlin, 67, a native of Gates County, died April 17, 2008, in Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.

Mrs. Modlin was formerly employed as a shipping clerk with Producers Peanut Co. in Suffolk, she later retired after 23 years of serving as the rural carrier with the Corapeake Post Office. A member of Oak Grove Christian Church and its Women’s Fellowship, she served as the church treasurer for more than 40 years and was also a member of the Gatesville Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Jesse E. Modlin; two daughters, Kathy Modlin of Wilmington and Kimberly Casper of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons, Keith Modlin of Sunbury and Kevin Modlin of Fayetteville; a sister, Lois Jordan of Corapeake; two brothers, Dan Greene of Sunbury and Jack Greene of Suffolk; and eight grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Oak Grove Christian Church by the Rev. Garrett Lewis. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, in charge. Carl D. Webb

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Carl D. Webb, 72, a native of Gatesville, died April 16, 2008, in Virginia Beach.

Webb retired from the Federal Aviation Administration, was a member of Haygood United Methodist Church, its Faith Bible Class and was a graduate of Old Dominion University.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Griffin Webb; two sons, C. Douglas Webb and Brian D. Webb, both of Virginia Beach; sister, Rita Eure Foster of Gates; two brothers, Glenn Webb of Gatesville and Lloyd Webb of Suffolk; and three grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Haygood United Methodist Church by the Rev. Charles Shumate. Burial in be Rosewood Memorial Park. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home is in charge. Emma Edwards

RALEIGH n Emma Doris Edwards, 78, died April 17, 2008 at Litchford Village Care Center. She was the widow of Henry C. Edwards.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sharon United Methodist Church, Margarettsville, by the Rev. and Mrs. Austin Anderson. Burial will be in the Coggin family cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church prior to services. McArthur Bryant

ROCKY MOUNT n McArthur Bryant, 48, died April 16, 2008.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Baptist Church, Rocky Mount. Interment will be in the Gardens of Gethsemane. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Monday at H.D. Pope Funeral Home.
