HC remains under state of emergency

The winds have ended; now the clean-up begins.
Hertford County residents are in the recovery mode in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene, a storm that left widespread damage in her wake.
A County assessment team has been dispatched to access the property damage throughout the county.
According to the latest update from Hertford County Emergency Management, the county continues to be under a state of emergency, although the countywide curfew ended at 6 a.m. Sunday as well as the ban being lifted for the sale of beer and wine.
Following a day off on Monday due to no electrical service in Winton, all department heads of Hertford County Governmental offices should report to work at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday. All other staff members are to report at 10:30 a.m. unless they are otherwise notified by their Department Head.
The following roads are completely closed in Hertford County:
William Vincent Road, blocked by trees
Will Slade Road, blocked by trees
Daughtry Road, blocked by trees
Cullen Road, blocked by power lines
Boones Bridge, blocked by power lines
Benthall Bridge Road near Murfreesboro is closed due to flooding.
Travel is reduced to one lane on Longs Creek Road, NC 561 West, Liverman Mill Road, New Hope Church Road and Statesville Road due to downed power lines. Please assume all down power lines are live, do not attempt to handle down lines. Contact your local power company about down power lines.
A chainsaw team from the North Carolina Forest Service has arrived in the county to assist in the removal of down trees from the public roadways.
Hertford County Emergency Management Director Chris Smith said the water levels are rising in the Potecasi Creek and Meherrin River.
