Northampton falls to SE Halifax

CREEKSVILLE – Southeast Halifax jumped out to a 10-1 lead and never trailed here Thursday night.

Darius Silver hit a three-pointer to start the contest and help get the Trojans’ varsity boys basketball team defeat Northampton-East 72-56.

After Southeast Halifax took the lead, Northampton battled back with four consecutive hoops n one each from Deshawn Vick, Darrell Boone, James Long and Quayshawn Deloatch n to get within 10-9.

Southeast, however, scored the final three hoops of the first quarter to surge back ahead 16-9.

The Rams got a bucket from Vick to open the second quarter, but Southeast scored six of the next eight points to open up a 19-11 advantage.

The lead edged up to 10 points (29-19) midway through the quarter, but Northampton battled back with four points from Boone and a Darryl Fisher hoop to close the gap to 29-25.

Elton Williams, who led all scorers with 16 points, had 10 of those points consecutively over the closing minutes of the first half to help the Trojans grab a 39-25 lead at the intermission.

After the Rams were able to trim their deficit to 11 (42-31) early in the third period, Southeast Halifax went on a 15-4 spurt that gave them a 57-35 lead with 2:31 to play in the third quarter.

The only hoops for the Rams during the Southeast onslaught came when Vick and Fisher had back-to-back buckets.

The Rams whittled away at the lead with buckets from Vick and Boone and a triple off the hands of Deloatch, but could only get within 62-45 by the end of the third quarter.

The fourth period opened with a Silver triple for the Trojans, but Northampton got a free throw from Long to go with hoops from Rashad Pittman and Vick to close within 65-50.

From there, Southeast Halifax was able to close out the game with a series of free throws.

Long led the scoring for Northampton-East with 12 points while Boone had 11 and Vick added 10.

Williams, Silver (11 points) and C.J. McGuire (10) led Southeast Halifax.
