JACKSON — There’s no doubt Hurricane Irene left her mark in Northampton County, as county assessments are putting the damage in the millions of dollars.
On Wednesday, Northampton County Manager Wayne Jenkins presented the Board of County Commissioners with preliminary storm damage totals for crops as well as property.
Jenkins said as of Wednesday unofficial numbers from USDA Farm Service Agency put the loss of cotton, tobacco and corn crops at a combined $10.5 million.
Meanwhile, an email from Tax Administrator Cathy Allen placed preliminary property damages at $1.66 million.
Allen’s email said that while all assessments were complete, information was still being compiled for the final assessment report.
