Louise Williams

MURFREESBORO n Louise Williams, 89, a native of Bertie County, died December 12, 2007 at Guardian Care, Ahoskie.

A funeral was conducted Monday at Parker’s Grove Baptist Church, Mapleton, by the Rev. Fernando Temple Sr. Burial was in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, was in charge.

She is survived by one son, Wesley Ben of Baltimore, Md.

James W. Eley Sr.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – James W. Eley Sr., 67, a native of Winton, died December 11, 2007.

Eley was a former member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Winton.

Survivors include his wife, Rosa L. Eley of Portsmouth; three daughters, Jacqueline Eley, Valerie Goldsmith and Jane Griffin, all of Portsmouth; two sisters, Celestine E. Whitehead of Portsmouth and Delores E. Randall of Chesapeake.

A funeral was conducted Monday in Corprew Funeral Home Chapel, Portsmouth. Burial was in Eley Family Cemetery, Winton.

Clara E. Baker

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Clara Eley Baker, 64, a native of Ahoskie, died December 12, 2007, in Sentara Leigh Hospital.

Born in Ahoskie, N.C., she was the beloved daughter of Elizabeth Eley and the late John H. Eley Sr.

Mrs. Baker worked at the Norfolk Naval Air Station as a personnel specialist, retiring after 31 years of service. She was a member of Zion Bethel United Church of Christ in Portsmouth.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. Hollie Baker Sr.; her children, Staretta Benjamin, Tamara Baker-Thomas and Hollie Baker Jr.; her mother, Elizabeth Eley; three grandchildren; sisters and brothers, Mary Marsh, John Eley, Sarah Scarbor, Sandy Hamlett and Eric Eley; and three grandchildren.

A funeral was conducted Saturday in Zion Bethel UCC in Portsmouth. Interment was in

Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Arthritis Foundation, Hampton Roads Branch, 5105 Cleveland St., Virginia Beach, VA 23462, in memory of Clara Baker. Fisher Funeral Home, 1520 Effingham St., Portsmouth, was in charge.

Harrell A. Barnes Jr.

COLERAIN – Harold Alton Barnes Jr., 69, a native of Norfolk, Va., died December 15, 2007 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.

Barnes had retired from Royster Clark Fertilizer and Cramer Tire Company. He was a member of Atlantic Shores Baptist Church, Virginia Beach, and a past president and member of the Virginia Beach Lion Club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the Marines Reserve.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara McGee Barnes; one daughter; Geannine Barnes Chlomoudis of Murfreesboro; one son, Asa Lee Barnes of Colerain; two sisters, Linda Barnes of Norfolk and Joyce Britt of Merry Hill; one brother, Leon Barnes of Virginia Beach; and three grandchildren.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Garrett Funeral Home Ashley Chapel, 205 NC Highway 42 West, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Roger Hammond. The family will receive friends following the services at the funeral home, and will assemble at the funeral home 1:30 p.m. Thursday Prior to services. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Raleigh Administrative Resource Center,11 South Boylon Suite 221, Raleigh, NC. 27602.  

Henry Boone Jr.

KINGSTON, NY – Henry &uot;Junior&uot; Boone Jr., 72, died  December 12, 2007 at Kingston

Hospital.  

Boone retired from Ulster County Building and Grounds and had prior worked for Kingston Window Cleaning Company.  He was a member of Riverview Baptist

Church.  

Survivors include his wife,

Florrie Harden of Kingston; one daughter, Eunice &uot;Neicy&uot; Allen of Kingston; two sons, Steven Boone of Hurley and Marvin Boone

of Kingston; two sisters, Carol Boone and Nora Moody, both of Gates; three brothers, James Boone of Wilkesboro, Lee Stanley Mooring of Murfreesboro and Ray Mooring of Gates; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services were conducted Monday

at Riverview Missionary Baptist

Church by Rev. John H. Gilmore. Services in North Carolina will be held on Thursday, December 20, 2007 at 2 p.m. in Hunter’s Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie.  Burial will be in Stoney Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.

Johnnie W. Boone

PENDLETON – Johnnie W. “JW” Boone, 67, a native of Hertford County, died December 14, 2007 at his residence in Pendleton.

Survivors include two daughters, Melissa B. Smith of Woodland and Teresa Smith of Como; one brother, Grady Boone of Como; five grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Hunter’s Funeral Home Chapel, Murfreesboro.

Daisy M. Bulluck

ROCKY MOUNT n Daisy Mae Bulluck, 83, died December 14, 2007 at Nash General Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke Baptist Church, Leggett. Burial will be in Gardens of Gethsemane. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at H.D. Pope Funeral Home, Rocky Mount.

Lloyd Newsome Jr.

COFIELD n Lloyd Newsome Jr., died December 14, 2007 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Philippi Baptist Church, Cofield, by the Rev. Charlie Carter. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Jones Newsome of Cofield; one son, Lloyd Newsome III of Cofield; three daughters, Sandra Newsome Young of Louisville, KY, Sherri Newsome Jackson of Cofield and Vanessa Newsome of Winton; four brothers, Calvin Brown of Jersey City, NJ, John Brown of South Carolina, Donie Moore of Chesapeake, Va., and Richard Moore of Murfreesboro; four sisters, Shirley Askew, Dorothy Moore, Mary Rankins and Elaine Montgomery, all of Cofield; and six grandchildren.

Tony R. Bazemore

WINDSOR n Tony Ross Bazemore, died December 13, 2007 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Windsor, by the Rev. Alma Lucas. Burial will be in the Veale family cemetery, Lewiston. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include six brothers, Dennis, John and Curtis Bazemore, all of Queens, NY, Ervin Bazemore of Far Rockaway, James S. Pugh and Benjamin Bazemore Sr., both of Windsor; and four sisters, Gloria Hendricks and Gladys Spivey, both of Windsor, Jeanetta Hendricks of Queens and Doris Smallwood of Bronx.

Pamela D. Cooper

BELTSVILLE, MD n Pamela D. Cooper, 48, died December 13, 2007.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Cedar Landing Baptist Church, Windsor. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the funeral. Visitation services will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Gilliam Funeral Home. There will be a private interment at the family plot.

Benjamin W. Brown

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. n Benjamin Wall Brown, 62, formerly of Virginia Beach, died Monday, December 17, 2007.

Mr. Brown was born Aug. 20, 1945 in Murfreesboro, N.C., the son of the late James Benjamin and Ruth Wall Brown. He was the former owner of THE HUB of TIDEWATER. Men’s clothing store for 17 years and the Amber Ryan Company in Virginia Beach.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Suzanne King Brown; a son, David Ryan Brown and wife Jeannie of Gates, NC; a sister, Brenda Brown Watson and husband Parker of Severn, NC; a granddaughter, Haley Ryan Brown and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, December 20, 2007 at Meherrin Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Brinkley and Rev. Arthur Warren officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of Meherrin Baptist Church, Wednesday evening, December 19, 2007 from 7 until 8:30 p.m.
