MURFREESBORO – The official numbers are in, and once again Chowan University is proud to report another record enrollment for the fall semester with this year’s final headcount at 1,324.
This is an increase of 110 students over last year’s enrollment of 1,214, and the largest total enrollment that Chowan has seen since in 40 years.
“Chowan University’s reputation for academic quality, Christian integrity, and individual attention continues to bring students here in record numbers,” explained Vice President of Enrollment Management and Dean of Admissions Chad Holt.
The 2011 Fall Semester Check-in Day also saw a major turnout from the community in support of the incoming freshman. Churches, businesses and organizations came out in mass to Squirrel Park at the heart of the historic campus to provide much-needed refreshments, snacks and lunches.
“Chowan University and Campus Ministry are indebted to the generous spirit of our local congregations and businesses that partner with us to truly offer hospitality to our incoming freshmen and their families,” said Mari Wiles, Minister to the University, of the 3,800 plates served out that day. “We could not do this event without the willingness and hard work of our neighbors. Thank you for helping us offer kindness and a good meal in the middle of a stressful day for many families.”
Special thanks go out to the participating members from Second Baptist Creeksville, Meherrin Baptist, First Baptist Ahoskie, Conway Baptist, Murfreesboro United Methodist, New Jerusalem Church of God in Woodland, Galatia Baptist, Murfreesboro Baptist, Ahoskie Christian Center, Ace Hardware, Whitley’s Barbecue, Verizon, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and the Colony of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.
