Rams sweep opponents

GATESVILLE – Ridgecroft School defeated Gates County High School 7-2 here Tuesday.
The Lady Rams won five singles matches and two doubles outings to move to 2-0 on the season.
Ridgecroft’s five top seeds all secured victory in the match.
Number one Jessica Bolton defeated Morgan Bagley 10-2 whole second seed Tayler Smith knocked off Brittany Mize 10-0.
The next two Lady Rams rolled to perfect 10-0 victories as third-seed Caroline Bowman topped Lindsey Miller and four seed Taylor Futrell beat Ashley Pierce.
Lady Ram Crystal Styron secured a 10-2 win over Kelli Howell.
Gates County’s lone singles victory came when Kayleigh Evans defeated Erin Riddick 10-7.
In doubles action, Bolton and Smith won the battle of top seeds by a 10-1 count.
Bowman and Futrell defeated Miller and Howell 10-5 for the second doubles victory.
The Lady Barons second win came when Pierce and Evans defeated Styron and Riddick 10-6.
Ridgecroft also defeated Hertford County earlier in the week, securing a 9-0 win.
Rams’ number one seed Jessica Bolton defeated Cecilia Jones 6-0 and 6-1 while number two seed Tayler Smith topped Brooke Stroud by an identical count.
Third seed Caroline Bowman secured a win over Brittany Odom by a final of 6-1 and 6-1.
Taylor Futrell defeated Chelsie Malone 6-1 and 6-0 while fifth seeded Crystal Styron topped Brittany Pierce 6-1 and 6-1.
In the final singles match, Erin Riddick defeated Tiffany Pierce 6-0 and 6-1.
In the top-seeded doubles contest, Bolton and Bowman defeated Jones and Stroud on a forfeit.
Smith and Futrell defeated Odom and Jasmine Slade 8-0 in the number two doubles competition while Riddick and Styron topped B. Pierce and B. Freeman 8-1.
“This was our first match of the year and I was pleased with our overall performance,” Ridgecroft coach Elton Winslow said.
