Greenfield tops Lady Rams

AHOSKIE – Greenfield School defeated Ridgecroft in a tennis match here Monday.
The visiting Lady Knights swept the doubles competition and won five singles matches to secure the 8-1 victory.
Mille Bryant had the lone win for Ridgecroft. She defeated Courtney Williams 6-0 and 6-4 in a battle of number two seeds.
In the battle of third seeds, Ridgecorft’s Hennie Larabee battled, but came up short against Kenan Barnes by counts of 7-5 and 6-4.
In the battle of top seeds, Greenfield’s Cameron Blair topped Katie Futrell by counts of 6-2 and 6-1 while fourth seeded Hannah Ferrell defeated Ridgecroft’s Amber Bracy 6-2, 6-1.
In the number five matchup, Greenfield’s Ellen Cleary defeated Roxie Daniels by dual counts of 6-1.
Greenfield sixth seed Kristy Johnstone topped McKenzie Quattlebaum by a final of 6-3 and 6-2.
In the doubles competition, the Knights won the top-seeded matchup by a close 9-7 count with Williams and Ferrell edging Bryant and Futrell.
In the second-seeded matchup, Blair and Cleary topped Ridgecroft’s Larabee and Chloe Dunn by a count of 8-1 and then the Knights finished the doubles sweep when Barnes and Johnstone defeated Elizabeth Joyner and Bracy 8-2.
Ridgecroft dropped to 4-5 overall with the loss.
