CREEKSVILLE – The 2007 high school football season is almost here.

Greg Watford, the new head football coach at Northampton County High School-East, stands ready to mold a winning team.

He will offer a football camp from July 30 to August 4 for East students. Camp participants will focus on individual skills and team building.

“There will be instruction in all aspects of the game: stance, technique, alignment, responsibility, as well as the skills requisite for Northampton-East football,” Watford said.

“[We hope] to teach the kids the fundamentals of the game as they apply to our system and to build unity and team work ethic.”

Instruction on individual football skills and team work has been a part of Watford’s system at other coaching stops.

He has held camps like this one in the past.

“I’ve done several [camps] in the past,” Watford said.

“It does a great job of molding the individual parts into a team.”

His camps helped his former teams succeed.

He believes success will come to his new team as well.

“Every camp I’ve had has been very successful,” Watford said. “I’ve taught the requisite skills for teamwork, unity and a successful season.”

Facing a rigorous early schedule, the Rams play Rocky Mount in week one, Mattamuskeet in week two followed by Hertford County High School in week three, Watford believes the camp will help build the team for these early games.

“I really feel this will be beneficial to all who participate and will help us to achieve our goals of winning and a championship season,” Watford said.

Tapping his coaching staff’s talent and using the Rams’ athletic facilities, Watford intends for the camp to lay the groundwork for building a successful 2007 season.
