MURFREESBORO – Quick reaction time helped the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office solve a crime Wednesday.

According to Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan, his office received a call at approximately 9:11 a.m. Wednesday concerning a breaking-and-entering in progress.

Vaughan said when officers arrived on the scene they saw a man later identified as Joshua Dominique Smith, 18, of 112 Meadow Drive, Murfreesboro, fleeing from the scene.

Smith was apprehended and charged with possession of stolen goods. He is in the Hertford County Jail under a $10,000 secured bond.

After further investigation, officers made two additional arrests in the incident.

Cecil Davon Ferrell, 19, of 102 Marion Drive in Murfreesboro, was charged with two counts of breaking-and-entering and larceny after breaking and entering. He is under a $20,000 secured bond in the Hertford County Jail.

A 15-year-old juvenile male was also arrested in the case.

Vaughan said the investigation showed the suspects had broken into a home on Fairview Drive in Murfreesboro and had taken such items as a PlayStation, jewelry, a piggy bank with coins and shoes.

After allegedly placing the items in a black duffle bag, the stolen property was taken to 120 Meadow Drive. The suspects allegedly broke into that unoccupied home and left the merchandise there.

“I want to commend my deputies for a job well done,” Vaughan said. “I also want to say a special thanks to the citizens. They did a great job helping us.”

The deputies who assisted in the investigation included Lt. Will Liverman, Capt. Raymond Eure, Sgt. Neil Ambrose, Deputy Allen Archer and Deputy John Joyner.
