LASKER – Northeast Academy swept a pair of varsity tennis matches here last week.

The Lady Eagles defeated Lawrence Academy twice – first topping the Warriors 5-4 as they finished a rainout from Sept. 15 and then winning 8-1 in the day’s second contest.

In the rain-out match, the two teams split the six singles outings before Northeast pulled out the victory by a 9-8 score in the final match of the day.

Lawrence’s Hallie Corbett claimed a 6-3, 6-1 victory at the number one singles matchup and then Bailey Nelson topped Kalen Rose 6-2, 6-1 to give the Warriors another win.

Northeast number three seed Ivey Little reversed the trend when she edged Sarah Cowand 6-1, 1-6 and 10-5. NEA number four Ashton Liverman kept things going in the right direction for the Eagles with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Brittany Lancaster.

The Lady Eagles also won the number five contest where Caitlin Foster defeated Margaret Nelson 6-4 and 6-1.

In the number six matchup, Lawrence’s Eliza Byrum won be default as Mollie Cocke was not available to complete their match.

The Lady Warriors then rolled in the number one doubles contest with Corbett and B. Nelson topping Rose and Jones 8-0.

Northeast bounced back in the number two doubles competition with Little and Liverman topping Cowand and Lancaster 8-3.

That set up the final match of the day in which Foster and Ashlynn Bridgers edged M. Nelson and Byrum by a 9-8 count to secure the victory for Northeast.

The second match of the day was not as close as Northeast scored five singles victories and took all three doubles contests to win 8-1.

Corbett was the only Lady Warrior to taste victory as she defeated Jones 8-1 in the pro-set match.

Rose then defeated Cowand at the number two spot by an 8-2 mark and Little scored an 8-5 win over Brittany Lancaster.

Liverman defeated M. Nelson at number four singles and Foster topped Byrum at number five.

The last singles match of the day saw Bridgers defeat Maggie Daniels by a final of 8-2.

In doubles action, Rose and Jones defeated Corbett and M. Nelson 8-6 before Little and Liverman rolled to an 8-1 win over Cowand and Lancaster.

The final match of the day saw Foster and Bridgers defeat Byrum and Daniels 8-4.

The two wins boosted Northeast to 12-3 for the season.
