MURFREESBORO – Northeast Academy and Ridgecroft School squared off in the final regular season tennis match here last week.
Northeast was able to secure a 6-3 win to boost their win total for the season to 13. Ridgecroft, meanwhile, finished the regular season 8-6 overall.
“The conditions were brutal with winds gusting to 30 miles per hour,” Ridgecroft Head Coach Elton Winslow said. “Overall, Northeast’s girls were better able to adapt to the playing conditions.”
Katie Futrell won the battle of number one seeds for Ridgecroft, topping Kalen Rose 8-1. Miller Bryant then kept things going the Rams’ way with an 8-2 victory over Haley Jones.
Ivey Little got the highest seeded victory for Northeast as she stopped Hennie Larabee by a 9-7 count at number three. That turned the tide for the Eagles as they rolled in the next three matches as well.
Ashton Liverman topped Amber Bracy 8-4 at number four while Caitlin Foster defeated Roxie Daniels 8-2 in the number five contest. The sixth seeded contest saw Ashlynn Bridgers defeat McKenzie Quattlebaum 8-2.
In doubles action, Futrell and Bryant claimed an 8-6 decision at the number one seed.
Northeast, however, swept the final two matches. Little and Liverman topped Larabee and Bracy 8-2 before Bridgers and Foster beat Daniels and Quattlebaum 8-1.
Both teams will be in the North Carolina Independent School Athletic Association 1-A state tennis tournament this weekend.
