JACKSON – Everything comes in threes for Shelia Eley.

As the Trial Court Coordinator for Judicial District 6B, Eley’s responsibilities are not inclusive to just one county…rather three of them (Bertie, Hertford and Northampton).

She schedules civil court cases, serves as the liaison for continuances, handles jury excuses and drafts and formats all correspondence coming from the office of her boss n District 6B Chief Judge Alfred Kwasikpui.

Oh, by the way, has it been mentioned that she works alone?

“I’m not complaining because I love my job,” Eley said after recently being honored by Judge Kwasikpui for her 15 years of service. “Whatever I do I have to do it three times for the three counties that Judge Kwasikpui serves.”

A native of Hertford County, Shelia is married to Jamison Eley. The couple makes their home in Winton.

Eley said she had performed secretarial work for most of her adult life, including one stint as a secretary at the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office.

She holds a degree from Roanoke-Chowan Community College in Executive Secretarial Science and a BA in Public Administration from the Shaw CAPE Center in Ahoskie.

“I enjoy my work in Judge Kwasikpui’s office for the main reason that I have a great boss,” Eley said.

Eley said her workload can be stressful at times, but admitted it wasn’t the “bad kind of stress.”

“One of the things I enjoy the most is meeting and interacting with a lot of people,” Eley said. “I think that’s the best part of my job.”

When asked what career path she would take if forced to leave her current job, Eley quickly answered by saying, “Whenever my time here is up, I’ll put my trust in God to open another door.”

Eley is the daughter of Andrew and Etta Vaughan of the St. John community.
