PLYMOUTH – Bertie High School’s varsity baseball team recorded win number two on the season here Tuesday.

The Falcons scored four runs in the final three innings to knock off Plymouth High School 10-8.

The win came by way of relief pitcher Brent Bowen (2-1), who pitched four innings while striking out nine and walking just one. He relieved Hunter Mizelle, who tossed three innings, striking out five and walking five.

The Falcons started off well, plating three in the first inning.

Mizelle reached on an error before Aaron Hoggard singled. Scott Hoggard then scored Simon Hoggard (a courtesy runner for Mizelle) on an RBI-single.

P.J. Schwab walked to load the bases before Zeke Williams delivered a two-run single that gave Bertie a 3-0 advantage.

Plymouth deadlocked the score when they countered with three in the home half of the first.

Bertie edged back into the lead when they scored three more runs in the fourth inning.

Mizelle again started the rally when he walked with one out. Aaron Hoggard singled to move Simon Hoggard, who was again running for Mizelle, to third. Simon Hoggard scored on a single by Scott Hoggard to make it 4-3.

After Schwab received a free pass to load the bases, Williams again came through with a two-run single.

The Vikings plated five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take an 8-6 lead over Bertie, but the Falcons responded in the top of the fifth frame.

Dobbin, Mizelle and Aaron Hoggard all walked to load the bases. Dobbin and Mizelle scored on a two-run double by Scott Hoggard. Aaron Hoggard scored on a Schwab sacrifice fly to make it 9-8.

The Falcons plated their final run in the sixth inning when Aaron Hoggard scored Dobbin on an RBI-single.

Scott Hoggard led the Bertie batting effort with a 3-for-5 day that included four RBIs and a stolen base. Williams was 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a walk.

Aaron Hoggard was also solid at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a base on balls while Dobbin was 2-for-3 with three runs scored, two stolen bases and two walks.

Bo Ledford and Schwab were each 1-for-2 on the day while Bowen was 1-for-5.

The Falcons (2-2) will host Williamston Thursday at 4:30 p.m. before SouthWest Edgecombe pays a visit on Friday.
