WOODLAND— James Ellis Garris won the mayor’s seat here after receiving the most write-ins.

On Tuesday, voters inWoodlandcast 118 write-ins for mayor and 198 for the two open seats on the Town Board of Commissioners after no candidates filed for election.

According to the unofficial results provided by Susie Squire, director of the Northampton County Board of Elections, of the 118 write-ins, 85 were for Garris.

Shelby Pierce was another write-in candidate for mayor who received a significant amount of write-in votes with 25.

Jean Timberlake Barnes and Joseph Blake Lassiter have been voted into the two open positions on the town board. Of the 198 write-ins, Barnes received 81 while Lassiter was named on 78 ballots.

Squire said there were several other write-ins for mayor and town commissioner, but none with a significant amount of votes.

Despite James Thomas Jillcott not seeking reelection to the Conway Town Council, he received the majority (18) of the 47 write-ins. All five seats were up for election on the board, however, only four incumbents filed for reelection.

Incumbents Alan Harris and Phil Matthews received 42 votes each while Willie Simmons received 35 and Gail Wade had 41 votes.

In Lasker, an incumbent who did not filed for reelection also ended up receiving the majority of the write-ins for an open uncontested seat. Charlie Mallory received 12 write-ins of the 16 for town commissioner.

Incumbents Charles Daughtry Jr. and Robin Gibson received 13 and 12 votes respectively.

Mayor Dick Collier, who ran unopposed, received 13 votes.

 

Rich Square Mayor Peggy Risper, who ran unopposed, received 52 votes.

The town’s incumbent commissioners, who also ran unopposed, received the following number of votes: Linwood Bryant, 59, Deborah Deloatch, 41, Charles Eason, 48, Raymond Joyner, 48, and Reginald White, 47.

InSevern, mayoral incumbent George McGee ran unopposed and received 22 votes.

The town’s incumbent commissioners, who all ran unopposed, received the following number of votes: Troy Holloman, 22, Eloise Martin, 23, Rita McKeown, 24, Franklin Ferguson, 22, and Royal Parker Watson Jr., 22.

Seaboard town commissioner incumbents Edward Stevens and Reid Harris II received 66 and 60 votes respectively.

Jacksonmayoral incumbent Jim Gossip received 35 votes in his unopposed run for another term. Unopposed town commissioner incumbents William Futrell Jr. and Stevie Harrell received 34 and 33 votes respectively.

On the western end of the county, Garysburg will see a new town commissioner in Chemeka Williams who received 53 write-ins. Garysburg had one town council incumbent not to file for reelection.

Town commissioner candidates received the following number of votes: Lola Ausby, 70, Woodrow  Harding Jr., 72, James Mayo, 68, and Darryl Whittle, 71.

Garysburg Mayor Roy Bell, who ran uncontested, received 77 votes.

In Gaston, Jason Neal Moore edged out Alice Delbridge by just seven votes for mayor.Moorereceived 49 while Dehbridge received 42.

In the race for three open seats on Gaston Town Council, Jerry Dickerson was the top vote-getter with 80 followed by Donald Conner who received 63 votes and Deborah James with 58. Candidate Franklin Manning received 57 votes.
