AHOSKIE – Three Murfreesboro men, including a teenager, have been arrested in connection with a crime here on Holloman Avenue.

Ahoskie Police Chief Troy Fitzhugh reported the arrests of Andre Desboly Manley, 21, Quintonio Lamont Riddick, 22, and 17-year-old Jarvis Alvin Holley. Each was charged with felonious attempted breaking and entering.

Manley, jailed under a $6,000 bond, faces an additional charge of resist, delay and obstruct.

Riddick and Holley were each incarcerated under a $5,000 bond.

The alleged crime occurred in the early morning hours of Feb. 10 in the 100 block of Holloman Ave. There, Alvin Harrell, owner of Five Top Fashions, was spending the night at his place of business when he heard noises.

“Mr. Harrell informed us that around 2:45 a.m. he heard someone knocking at the front door of his business,” Chief Fitzhugh said. “Mr. Harrell said he did not respond to the knocking, but then heard some noise on the side of his place of business. He then made a call to the Ahoskie Police Department.”

APD Lt. Michele Garrett responded to the call. Upon turning off of Catherine Creek Road onto Holloman Ave., Lt. Garrett observed three males looking towards the front door of Five Top Fashion as well as Harrell leaning out of the door holding a hammer. She stated in her report that one of the males appeared to be wearing some sort of mask on the lower part of his face.

As she drew closer, one of the males ran from the scene. Lt. Garrett called for back-up and then gave chase on foot towards the rear of R.L. Vann School. With the assistance of other APD officers, the suspect, later identified as Manley, was apprehended with the use of a tazer gun.

Returning to the place of business, Lt. Garrett spoke with Harrell.

“Mr. Harrell informed Lt. Garrett at this time that he found an area, near a window, on the side of the building where a few boards were missing,” Fitzhugh said. “We’re thinking that’s where the suspects were attempting to gain entry.”

Meanwhile, Lt. Mike Stephenson with the Hertford County Sheriff’s Office arrived. Shortly before he arrived, Lt. Stephenson observed a pick-up truck with one male in the back who appeared to be changing clothes. He along with APD officers approached the vehicle to find Riddick and Holley. Chief Fitzhugh said Harrell positively identified those two as the ones he confronted at the front door of his business.

“I would like to commend everyone involved in making these arrests,” Fitzhugh said. “Teamwork between two different law enforcement agencies worked well in this case.”
