Poppell fills unexpired term

AULANDER – An unexpired term of the Aulander Board of Commissioners was filled Tuesday night.
According to unofficial results from the Bertie County Board of Elections, Ron Poppell was elected to serve out the two remaining years on the board. Poppell was appointed to the seat by the Aulander Commission and retained it during the election.
In fact, Poppell received more votes than any other candidate in the town. He had 93 ballots cast in his favor.
The unofficial results also showed that incumbent Mayor Larry Drew was reelected with 58 votes. Newcomer Corey E. Balance Sr. received 46 votes to claim a four-year term on the board and former Commissioner Bobbie Parker was elected to a four-year term as a write-in.
