Lady Bears fall

AHOSKIE – Northeastern broke open a 1-all tie with three runs in the second inning.

The Lady Eagles then went on to defeat Hertford County 14-2 in a Northeastern Coastal Conference softball game Tuesday afternoon.

The Lady Eagles led 1-0 after one inning of play, but the Lady Bears bounced back in the home half of the first.

Brooke Stroud led off with a single to left and then went to second on a wild pitch. Brittney Wilder laced an RBI-single to right, scoring Stroud and tying the game at 1-all.

Wilder stole second and went to third on a wild pitch, but a strikeout ended the inning.

Northeastern added three runs in the second inning and added one run in the third to take a 5-1 lead.

The Lady Eagles scored three runs in the fifth and score their final six runs in the top of the sixth to lead 14-1 heading into the bottom of the inning.

HCHS scored one run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

With one out, Stroud singled on the infield and went to second on an error on the play. Stroud advanced to third on a Wilder groundout and then scored when Antoinette Lyles had an RBI-single.

Brittany Odom walked to continue the inning and then Lyles went to third on a wild pitch, but a fly out ended the game.

Hertford County had four hits during the contest, with Stroud recording two of them. Wilder and Lyles had the other two hits.

Hertford County dropped to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
