ROANOKE RAPIDS – Ridgecroft School improved to 6-2 overall here last Thursday.

The Rams knocked off non-conference opponent Halifax Academy 62-51 to improve their overall mark.

The win didn’t come without a fight, however, as the home-standing Vikings took a 15-11 lead in the first quarter and held the same four-point advantage (27-23) at the intermission.

Ridgecroft’s comeback started in the third quarter when the Rams outscored their hosts 22-11 to grab a 45-38 lead.

They continued their dominance in the fourth period by outscoring the Vikings 20-13 and securing the victory.

“We played poorly in the first half,” Rams’ second-year coach Tim Boone said. “We stepped up the defensive pressure and executed better on offense in the second half.”

Leading the way for the Rams were seniors Chris Hill and Bryan Britton. Hill poured in 22 points while Britton added 17.

The defensive leader for the Rams was Matt Byrum, who also contributed 14 points on the offensive end.

Rounding out the Rams’ scoring was Evans Jones (4), Josh Morris (3), John Alexander (1) and Win Joyner (1).

Halifax was led by Nick Short’s 15 points and also by Brent Caudle and Corey Garvey, each of whom contributed 10 points. Cole Lucas added eight points.
