WINDSOR – For rent n spacious outdoor facilities with amenities. Call the Bertie County Recreation Department for details.
Phase one of the county’s new recreational complex, located off US 17 north of Windsor, is now open and in use by the Recreation Department for youth activities.
However, it is also available for rent.
At a recent meeting, the Bertie County Board of Commissioners approved a policy concerning public use of the facility. Currently, the baseball field and the multi-purpose field are available for rent.
The fee schedule is as follows:
One hour – $10 for county citizens ($18 for non residents).
Six hours – $50 ($58).
12 hours – $80 ($100).
Weekend rate – $150 ($225).
Those needing to have the fields dressed for play will be charged an additional $10 fee. Also, if the field lights are required, there is an added charge of $15 per hour.
A $25 deposit is required. The deposit is only refundable if 72 hours of advance notice is given for cancellation.
The deposit and all fees will be waived for usage by Bertie County public agencies and units of government.
There was some concern expressed by the commissioners regarding public rentals vs. normally scheduled activities planned by the Bertie Recreation Department. County Recreation Director Donna Mizelle clarified that all activities planned by the Recreation Department for the complex take precedent over those wishing to rent the facility. No scheduled county recreation events will be postponed or canceled to accommodate rental requests.
Upon approving the measure, the commissioners okayed the following rental policies:
Only adults, age 21 and older with valid photo ID, may reserve the facility.
The rental party will assume complete responsibility for damages and accidents occurring in the facility during the rental period.
Inappropriate behavior, vandalism or misuse of equipment will not be tolerated and may result in immediate expulsion from the facility. Also, no obscene language, loud music or profanity is tolerated. Noise/music levels must be kept within acceptable levels.
Alcoholic beverages, drugs, tobacco products and weapons/firearms are not permitted in indoor facilities. Tobacco use is permitted outdoors.
Chaperones for youth groups (ages 18-and-under) must be listed on the rental application. One approved adult per 10 children/teenagers is required.
The rental party is responsible for set-up and clean-up. All trash must be placed in provided receptacles. Failure to do so may result in loss of deposit, assessment of an additional fee and/or the inability to rent the facilities in the future.
The Bertie County Recreation Department is not responsible for lost or stolen items on the property.
