James Hawkins

HAMPTON, Va. n James Junior Hawkins, 55, formerly of Seaboard, died October 20, 2006 at McGuire Veteran Administration Medical Center.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Roanoke Rapids Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home with family hour from 6 to 7 p.m.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Jackson, by the Rev. George Jarman. Interment will be in the Hawkins family cemetery, Jackson.

Harold Precythe

FAISON n Harold Nelson Precythe, 52, a native of Duplin County, died October 20, 2006 at his residence.

A memorial service was conducted Sunday at the Faison Methodist Church. Entombment will follow at Faison Cemetery.

Precythe attended Chowan College in Murfreesboro and Mt. Olive College. He was a member of Faison Methodist Church and he worked as a sales representative for Southern Produce.

Survivors include two daughters, Emily Precythe and Erin Precythe, both of Calypso; and a brother, D. Stewart Precythe of Faison.

Rev. James C. Williams

COLERAIN n Rev. James Cofield Williams, 87, a native of Bertie County, died October 20, 2006, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

Williams was a faithful and active member of Askewville Bethel Assembly of God Church.

He was a retired farmer and a minister.

Survivors include his wife, Annie Sue Mizelle D. Williams; daughters, Audrey Brabble of Colerain, and Sharon Gregory of Roanoke Rapids; sons, Arlo Williams of Jacksonville, FL, Richard Williams of Colerain, Edward Williams of Edenton, and Ricky Williams of Colerain; half brothers, Lloyd Williams and Albert Williams, both of Harrellsville, and Rudolph Williams of Norfolk, VA; 14n grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren.

A celebration service of Mr. Williams’ life was conducted on Monday at Askewville Bethel Assembly of God Church with the Rev. R.O. Denton Sr. and Rev. R.O. Denton. Burial was in Highland Memorial Gardens. Garrett Funeral Home was in charge. George L. Byrum

MURFREESBORO n George Linwood “Buck” Byrum, 90, of Mt. Tabor Church Road, died peacefully at his home on October 22, 2006.

Mr. Byrum was born in Bertie County, a son of the late Lindsey Albert and Emma Caroline Swain Byrum.

He was a member of Mt. Tabor Baptist church and an active member of Woodmen of the World Lodge 862. Buck was a retired farmer, an avid fisherman, hunter, and simply “jack-of-all” trades.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Berna Dean Parker Harrell Byrum; three daughters, Lennie Williams of Aulander, Shirley Grizzard and husband, Robert of Ahoskie,

and Peggy White and husband, Earl of Murfreesboro; four step daughters, Kay Cuthbertson and husband, Steve of Kitty Hawk, Diane Revelle and husband, Ed of Louisburg, NC, Debra Futrell and husband, John of Murfreesboro, and Elaine Johnson and husband, Boyce of Greenville, NC; ten grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren; nine step grandchildren and ten step great grandchildren.

Mr. Byrum was predeceased by a daughter, Jeanette Vandiford.

His families most beloved memories will be those of daddy, granddaddy, ‘PA-PA’ and ‘Little Daddy’.

A celebration service of Mr. Byrum’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at Mt. Tabor Baptist Church with the Rev. Wint Hale, Jr. officiating.

Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery, Windsor, NC.

The family will receive friends at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, and other times at the home.

GATESVILLE n Gracie L. Bond, 56, died October 19, 2006 at Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Joppa Missionary Baptist Church, Hobbsville, by the Rev. William D. Wiggins. Burial will be in the Leach family cemetery. Stallings Funeral Chapel, Gatesville, was in charge.

Survivors include her husband, Fenton C. Bond Jr.; sons, Anthony Bond of Newark, Ohio and Kirk Bond, Fenton Bond and Gregory Bond, all of Gatesville; five sisters, Otelia Eason, Odessa Leach, Eula Leach and Rosa Bell Roberts, all of Waterbury, Conn., and Marion Kee of Hobbsville; four brothers, Matthew Leach and William Leach, both of Erie, Pa., Purnell Morris of Hobbsville and George Leach of Waterbury, Conn.; and four grandchildren.

AHOSKIE – Martha Britton Slaughter Peele, 95, October 23, 2006 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital.
