AHOSKIE – Two in a row is a streak.

The Lady Bears put together a winning streak here Saturday when they won their second in a row, downing visiting Northampton County High School – East 72-9.

All 11 players on the Hertford County roster scored during the contest, led by 18 from Brandi Burden and 17 from Camaryn Jones. Vanessa Mitchell was also in double figures with 10 points.

Northampton-East was led by five points from Ananase Joyner.

The contest was all Lady Bears from the beginning as the Hertford County offense scored 19 first quarter points while the HCHS defense held the Rams scoreless during the period.

Sherniece Futrell started the game with six straight points followed by successive hoops from Jones to give the Bears a 10-0 edge. Following four free throws for the Bears, Burden scored her first hoop to make it 16-0.

The scoring continued in the second quarter with Jones hitting the first bucket of the period to give the Bears a 21-0 lead.

Northampton’s first score came at the seven-minute mark of the second quarter when Imane Shoulders hit 1-of-2 from the free throw line to make it 21-1.

The Lady Bears then rolled off another 12 points in a row led by Burden’s six points as they led 33-1.

The first score from the floor for Northampton came at the two-minute mark of the second quarter when Joyner buried a three-pointer to make it 33-4. She followed that up with another hoop to close it to 33-6.

Burden scored the final six points of the first half on her own, however, and led the Lady Bears to a 39-6 halftime lead.

The home team opened the third quarter with 17 unanswered points as the lead ballooned to 56-6 before Alexis Shoulders scored three of the final five points of the quarter to close the period with Hertford County leading 58-9.

Northampton didn’t score in the fourth quarter while the Bears scored 14 to establish the final.

In addition to those in double figures, Hertford County got eight from Futrell, five from Quameka Cofield, four from Desiree James and three from Kayla Everette. Casey Grant, Dalisha Speight and Bayley Nicholas scored two each and Brianna Joyner closed out the scoring with one point.

The win boosted the Lady Bears to 2-3 for 2011-2012.
