Myrtle Beale

MURFREESBORO n Myrtle Parker Beale, 78, a native of Hertford County, died May 19, 2006 at her residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Sinai Church of God, Murfreesboro, by the Rev. Arthur Clark. Burial will be in Carver’s Park Cemetery, Murfreesboro. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

She was a member of Mt. Sinai Church of God, Murfreesboro.

Survivors include a son, Luther Beale of Murfreesboro; daughters, Mary J. Beale of Milwaukee, Wis., Darlene Beale, Christine B. Stefanelli, Dianne Beale, Louise Rucker and Emma Beale, all of Murfreesboro; a sister, Gladys Branch of Columbus, Ohio; 18 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Quincy Richardson

AHOSKIE n Quincy Richardson, 71, a native of Northampton County, died May 17, 2006.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lionel Whidbee Funeral Home, Scotland Neck, by the Rev. Bernice Scott. Burial will be in the Moore family cemetery, Rich Square.

Virginia C. Drayton

NORFOLK, Va. n Virginia Cooper Drayton, 86, a native of Como, died May 18, 2006 at Sentara Leigh Hospital. She was the widow of Edward Drayton Jr.

Mrs. Drayton retired from Norfolk State University.

Survivors include a daughter, Deborah Drayton-Lamb; two brothers, Wilmer Cooper of Manhattan, NY., and Roger Everette of Pendleton; and one grandson.

A celebration of life service will be conducted at noon Wednesday in Second Calvary Baptist Church, 2940 Corprew Ave., Norfolk, VA 23504 by the Rev. Tommy Drayton. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 1010 E. Brambleton Ave., Norfolk, VA 23504. The remains will be placed in the church Wednesday at 10 a.m. The family will meet at 2317 Myrtle Ave. at 11 a.m. for the procession to the church. Steven Felton, funeral director.

Alfred E. Simmons Jr.

CONWAY – Alfred Eskes Simmons Jr., a native of Birmingham, Ala., formerly of Norfolk, died May 19, 2006, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Simmons was of the Methodist faith. He was an employee of Atlantic Bulk Carriers.

Survivors inlcude his sister, Paulette Wickert of Suffolk; his parents, Alfred E. Simmons and Paulette E. Laporte; and one granddaughter.

Magaline Mitchell

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Magaline Mitchell, 79, a native of Aulander, died May 12, 2006, in Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center. She was the widow of George Mitchell.

Mrs. Mitchell was a member of New Mount Olivet Baptist Church, Portsmouth. Survivors include two sisters, Eunice Watson of Ahoskie and Myrth Ruth Evans of Oakland Park, Fla.; and a brother, Fred Allen Mitchell of Baltimore.

A graveside service was conducted Monday in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake, by the Rev. Milton R. Blount. Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, was in charge.

ThomasEna G. Lankford

LOUISBURG – ThomasEna Gandy &uot;Tommie&uot; Lankford, a native of Wadesboro, died May 18, 2006 in Rex Hospital.

A funeral was conducted Sunday at Louisburg Baptist Church by the Rev. Reggie Rushing. A graveside service was held on Monday in the Lankford family plot at Beaver Dam Baptist Church, Franklin. ROCKY MOUNT n Curtis Ray Vick, 53, died May 20, 2006 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

CONWAY n Mary Lassiter, 86, a native of Northampton, died May 19, 2006 at Hampton Woods.

A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church of Conway by the Rev. Jonah Walston Jr. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, is in charge.

Survivors include a daughter, Mildred Maurya of Woodbridge, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Raymond Jacobs

RICH SQUARE n Raymond Jacobs, 65, died May 19, 2006.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chapel Hill Baptist Church by the Rev. Harry Hayes. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Smith-Whidbee Funeral Home, Rich Square.

Carrie L. Jones

NORTH EASTON, Mass. n Carrie Lee Jones, died May 18, 2006 at Good Samariton Medical Center, Brockton.

A funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Elm Grove Baptist Church, Aulander, by the Rev. Anthony Ward. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include one son, Ralph William Jones of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter, Patricia Denise Jones Butler of Raysham, MA; two children she raised as her own, Mark Anthony LeGrande of Newark, NJ, and Allison Johnson Frasier of Bronx, NY; two sisters, Doris L. Clark of Newport News, Va., and Alevia W. Jones of New York City; two brothers, Nathan Wheeler of Hampton and McCurtis Wheeler of Ahoskie; and six grandchildren.

Abner Braddy

WINDSOR n Abner Sells Braddy, 76, a native of Bath, died May 21, 2006 at Three Rivers Nursing Home. He was the widower of Lois Woolard Braddy.

A graveside funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Edgewood Cemetery by the Rev. Noah Howard. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Walker Funeral Home and at other times from the home of Keith Braddy, 534 Republican Road, Windsor. Memorial gifts may be made to University Hospice, P.O. Box 74, Ahoskie, NC 27910.

Braddy after retiring from coaching and teaching at Bertie High School, became a salesman for Harrington Manufacturing Company. He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Windsor.

Survivors include two sons, Abner S. “Brad” Braddy Jr. of Winston-Salem and Keith Braddy of Windsor; two sisters, Geneva B. Morgan of Washington and Ona B. Forslund of Aurora, IL; and two grandchildren.

Lester Ward

WINDSOR n Lester Murray Ward, 66, a native of Windsor, died May 22, 2006.

A funeral service and interment will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Windsor, on Thursday at 11 a.m. with a luncheon following at home after the service. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Walker Funeral Home and other times from his home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 400, Windsor, NC 27983 or to University Home Hospice, P.O. Box 74, Ahoskie, NC 27910.

Ward was employed by Cooper Insurance Agency in 1961, becoming a partner and later as president of the corporation until his death. He was owner of his own business, East Coast Finance Company.

Survivors include his wife, Katherine Sawyer Ward; two daughters, Mary Charles Ward Pawlikowski of Rocky Mount and Elizabeth Ward Hollowman of Windsor; a brother, Jerry E. Ward of Pocosin, Va.; and three grandchildren.
