A Hertford County man is no longer on the lam.

David Morse of Ahoskie, who had reportedly fled from two sets of law enforcement agencies in the last several days, was arrested late Wednesday night in Hertford County.

According to Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan, Morse was picked up on NC 561 East outside of Ahoskie shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday.  He is held in the Hertford County Detention Center under a $9,000 secured bond.

“We received a call of an individual knocking on doors of homes in that area,” Vaughan said. “We dispatched a deputy to that area and he spotted Morse walking along the road and was able to make the arrest without incident.”

At the outset of the two-county search for Morse, Vaughan said the suspect was spotted earlier this week off U.S. 13 just south of Ahoskie by one of his deputies. The deputy turned his vehicle around and the man jumped and ran into the woods.

Hertford County deputies were searching for Morse on charges of larceny and second degree trespassing. They have now served warrants for resist, obstruct and delay of an officer.

According to witn.com, the same man was stopped by North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers in Martin County on Tuesday. He pulled into a farming operation on James Road and took off again on foot, leaving other people in the vehicle.

The website also reported the Morse broke entered an elderly woman’s home through an unlocked door, used her telephone and left 10 minutes later when a vehicle arrived.

He now reportedly faces charges of resist, obstruct and delay as well as reckless driving in Martin County. Those warrants have been served.
