ELIZABETH CITY – Megan Cowan nearly pulled off a feat rarely seen in high school.
The Bertie High School pitcher came close to pulling off a perfect game during Tuesday’s 4-0 win over Pasquotank County High School.
&uot;Megan just pitched a superb game,&uot; BHS coach Jackie Copeland said. &uot; She came close to a perfect game, but we made one misplay behind her that caused a hit.
&uot;Other than that, we played about as well as we can defensively,&uot; she said.
Cowan struck out 15 batters and surrendered the single hit to help the Lady Falcons go to 8-2-1 overall and 2-1 in the Northeastern Coastal Conference.
Cowan also belted a pair of homeruns to help her own cause as well as getting a 2-for-4 performance from Christie Brooks.
Copeland was also pleased with the sacrifices made by Holly Cowand and Courtney Dunlow.
Bertie will host Currituck County High School Friday at 4 p.m.
