Northeast takes two of three

Northeast Academy took three of four from Tarheel Independent Conference foe Terra Ceia Christian School Monday.

The varsity boys, varsity girls and junior varsity girls each claimed victory in the four-game set.

In the varsity boys outing, Northeast claimed a 50-49 victory thanks to a furious fourth-quarter rally. The Eagles trailed 42-30 heading into the final quarter, but outscored the Knights 20-7 in that period to claim the win.

Avery Hargrave led the way for Northeast with 14 points while Brad Johnson (11) and Will Glover (10) were also in double digits. Logan Simonowich scored eight for Northeast and Christian Fleetwood had five.

In the varsity girl’s game, Northeast took control in the second quarter as they held Terra Ceia scoreless in the frame and went on to a 40-22 win. The Eagles went from a 6-all tie to a 14-6 lead by halftime.

They added to that lead with a 10-6 third quarter and pulled away even further in the fourth.

Northeast had a balanced scoring attack with Kaylen Rose, Ashton Liverman and Ivey Little each contributing eight while Mollie Cocke and Robyne Barnes had six each. Hannah Roye added four.

The junior varsity girls claimed an 18-17 decision over Terra Ceia.

Chelsea Rose led the way with eight points with Megan Futrell adding four and Holly Byrum three points. Haley Jilcott had two and Anna Liverman one point.

Rebecca Harrison paced Terra Ceia with nine points.

In the junior varsity boys game, Northeast suffered a 46-19 defeat at the hands of the Knights.

Trey Futrell paced the Eagles with seven and Dale Davis added six. Branden Edwards contributed four points and Matt Little had two.
