CREEKSVILLE — The Northampton East boys basketball team prevented the North Edgecombe Warriors from coming into town and sweeping the home standing Rams here Friday night as they blasted the Warriors in the nightcap by a 107-59 score.

The Rams were led by Evans Grant’s 23 points as they dominated the Warriors in every phase of the game.

Treymaine Bowser started the scoring by hitting a three pointer at the 7:40 mark of the first period and the Rams never trailed running off to a 28-11 lead as the quarter closed. Grant and Chris Bishop pumped in seven points each leading the scoring effort in the first eight-minute period.

The second period again was all Rams as they won the quarter 23-9 building up a 53-20 halftime lead.  The Rams used a balanced scoring attack this quarter as Travis Wiggins poured in six points, Grant added five, Jamall Williams, Travis Whitehead and Bowser each contributed four.

The second half went the same as the first as the Rams high scoring offense continued in high gear and their tight defense continued to stifle the Warriors.

The fourth quarter was highlighted by an alley-oop from Grant to Wiggins which brought the crowd to its feet. The Rams had five players in double figures for the game.

Grant led all scorers with 23, followed by Williams’ 18, Whitehead’s 16, Bowser’s 15 and Wiggins’ 13.

In the girls contest played earlier, the Lady Warriors overcame a 12-2 first quarter deficit to defeat the Lady Rams by a 64-48 score.

The Lady Rams got off to a good start lead by Jomecka Deloatch, Dajenique Daye and Alexus Shoulders.  The Lady Warriors started their second string players who played the majority of the first period.

The second period saw the first string start and the game changed as the Lady Warriors closed the gap and only a free throw by the Rams’ Molly Leggett with nine seconds on the clock kept the Lady Rams in the lead 24-23 at halftime.
The second half began with a basket by the Lady Rams’ Daye giving the home team a 26-23 lead.

A six-point scoring spurt by the Lady Warriors put them ahead to stay.

A basket by Daye was followed by six more Lady Warrior points giving the visitors a 35-28 lead with 4:17 remaining in the period.  A three-pointer by Shoulders and three conventional baskets by Deloatch helped to tie the game at 40 with 40 seconds left in the period.

A basket by the Lady Warriors Jasmine Downing gave the Lady Warriors a 42-40 lead as the quarter came to a close.

North Edgecombe went on a 6-1 run to start the final stanza and was never stopped after that as they outscored the Lady Rams 22-8 over the final eight minutes.

The Lady Warriors were led in scoring by Downing who chipped in 27 points on the night.  The Lady Rams were led by Daye’s 25.

The Rams will next travel to Weldon to take on the Chargers in a Tar-Roanoke Conference contest on Tuesday.
