Debra B. Thweatt

CONWAY n Debra Britt Thweatt, 56, a native of Northampton County, died September 23, 2005 at her home.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc., Conway, by the Rev. Robert Deacon.

Mrs. Thweatt was retired from International Paper Corporation in Franklin, Va. Her great joy in life was her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Renee Thweatt Jones of Millennium and Tracy Thweatt Eure of Conway; two brothers, Cedric Ray Britt of Fayetteville and Kenneth Earl Britt of Virginia; and five grandchildren.

Mequiel A. Freeman Jr.

KELFORD n Mequiel Antonio Freeman Jr., 1 day old, infant son of Mequiel Freeman and Deborah Michelle Faison of Kelford, died September 24, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

Mequiel was a native of Hertford County.

A funeral was conducted Sunday at Wilder's Funeral Home Chapel, Aulander, by the Rev. Milton Lee. Burial was in the Wilder-Cherry Family Cemetery, Aulander.

Other survivors include maternal grandparents, Yvonne Faison of Kelford and Stanley Bell of Kelford; and paternal grandparents, Bernard and Sylvia Holley of Merry Hill.

Everett Carper

SUFFOLK, Va. – Everett &uot;Wayne&uot; Carper, 67, a native of Shenandoah County, Va., died September 23, 2005.

Carper was a U.S. Navy veteran and was a dispatcher with Everett Express Trucking Co. He was a member of South Norfolk Masonic Lodge No. 339, Portsmouth Moose Lodge No. 898 and a member of the Traffic Club.

Survivors include his wife, Ginny; one daughter, Peggy C. Cease of Wilmington; two stepsons, William T. Johnson of Suffolk and Michael A. Johnson of Gates; two sisters, Janice Koffel and Carolyn Raynor; a brother, Richard E. Carper, all of Edinburg, Va.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

A funeral with Masonic rites was conducted Monday in the Sidney F. Harrell Chapel of Harrell and Hill Funeral Home, Suffolk, by the Rev. Deb Jenkins. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 604 Constance Woods Drive, Suffolk, VA 23434.

Clonie G. Robinson

BOYKINS, Va. – Clonie Grant Robinson, 95, died September 20, 2005.

A graveside service was conducted Sunday in Oak Grove AME Church, Como. Wm. M. Johnson & Sons Funeral Home Inc. was in charge.

Raymond E. Davis

CLINTON, Ind. n Raymond Earl "Rooster" Davis, age 65, of Gaston, NC, died Thursday, September 22, 2005. He was born May 1, 1940, the son of the late Raymond and Florence Hedgepeth Davis. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Wayne "Poss" Davis. He was a veteran of Viet Nam and honorably discharged from the Navy. He was employed with Lee Clements Trucking Company as a truck driver. He loved his dogs Harvey and Streak-o-lean.

Survivors include his wife, Shelby Davis; two daughters, Barbara Jean Davis of Chester, VA, and Lisa Davis of Chesterfield, VA; one son, Raymond L. Davis, Jr. of Carson, VA; two brothers, Donald Ray Davis and wife, Gloria and Gene D. Davis and wife Delbra, both of Roanoke Rapids; grandchildren, Derek Jordan Davis and Jared Davis; and two stepdaughters, Sheryl Edwards and husband, Brent, and Christina Knotts and husband, Michael, both of Roanoke Rapids.

Also surviving stepson, Lewis Edwards of Emporia, VA, stepgrandchildren; and a special friend, James Gregory.

Graveside services with military honors will be held Friday, September 30, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Cedarwood Cemetery with Dr. Dennis Gregory officiating.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Willie R. Taylor

GARYSBURG n Willie R. "Will" Taylor, 96, a native of Northampton County, died September 25, 2005 at his home.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Lindsey Green. The family will receive friends at the home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Northampton County Humane Society, c/o Karen Cole, P.O. Box 262, Jackson, NC 27845 or the Roanoke Valley Learning Center for the Blind, P.O. Box 701, Weldon, NC 27890. Massey Funeral Home, Jackson, is in charge.

Taylor was a retired farmer and a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Taylor Rupert of Emerald Isle; and four nieces and a nephew.

CLAREMONT, CA n Curtis Figures Jr., died September 21, 2005 at the VA Hospital in Loma Linder.

Survivors include his wife, Annabelle Crutcher of Harrellsville; two daughters, Sharon Crutcher Walker of Palm City, Fla., and Sandra Crutcher Cooper of New York, N.Y.; one brother, Billy Crutcher of Chicago, Ill.; one sister, Jean Bervon of Chicago, Ill.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
