Williams was charged with attempted first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill/inflicting serious injury, robbery with a dangerous weapon and discharging a weapon into occupied property inflicting serious injury.

Bryant and Williams were placed in the Northampton County Jail each on a $60,000 secured bond.

The charges stem from a March 23 shooting. Vaughan said he received a call from the Northampton County Emergency Communications Center at approximately 5:10 p.m. in reference to someone being shot at the Garysburg Post Office. The chief said when officers, along with Northampton County Sheriff’s Major Bill Wheeler and Deputy Corey Jackson, responded to the scene no one was there.

“Shortly after, a suspicious vehicle was reported on Valley Street,” he said. “It appeared to be the victim’s car with several gunshots through the windshield.”

Vaughan said he then received a call from Halifax Regional Medical Center about a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was transported to Pitt Memorial Hospital in Greenville and was discharged the next day.

Vaughan thanked the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office and the State Bureau of Investigation for their assistance on the case.
