Colson, Larabee paced Ridgecroft

AHOSKIE — Senior Lauren Colson and freshman Hennie Larabee combined for 40 points to lead the Lady Rams of Ridgecroft over the Lady Eagles of Northeast Academy by a 49-33 score here Tuesday evening.
The game began with Colson hitting a jumper at the 7:35 mark. Elizabeth Joyner hit a basket at the 6:37 mark giving the Lady Rams a 4-0 lead.
The Lady Eagles’ Kalen Rose hit a pair of free throws at the 4:57 mark putting the Lady Eagles on the board. A three by Larabee was followed by three baskets and a free throw by Colson sandwiching an Ivey Little free throw as the period ended with the Lady Rams up 14-3.
The Lady Eagles started the second quarter with a field goal by Ashton Liverman and a pair of free throws by Mollie Cocke to cut the Lady Ram’s lead to 14-7 with just over a minute gone in the period.
A field goal by Mary-joe Harrell, a basket and two free throws by Colson and field goal by Larabee sandwiched a basket by the Lady Eagles’ Robyne Barnes gave the Rams a 22-9 lead with two minutes remaining in the quarter.
The first half ended with a basket by the Lady Eagles’ Hannah Roye giving the Lady Rams a 22-11 halftime lead.
The third quarter saw the Lady Eagles cut into the lead on the strength of some solid defense.
The Lady Rams still held an 11-point lead 27-16 at the five-minute mark.
The Lady Eagles then went on a 8-1 run on three field goals by Liverman and one by Rose to cut the lead to 28-25 with 1:42 remaining.
Colson stopped the spurt with a basket at the 1:21 mark and Larabee scored the final seven points of the period on two free throws, a three pointer and a give-and-go basket from Colson to close out the period with the Lady Rams up 37-25.
The final period saw the Lady Rams extend their lead taking a 49-33 victory.
Colson paced the Lady Rams with her game leading 21 points followed by Larabee’s 19. Liverman led the Lady Eagles with 13 points.
In JV action earlier in the evening, the Lady Rams squad overcame the Lady Eagles in overtime by a 25-21 score.
Leading the way for the Lady Rams was Emily Grace with eght points. Leading scorer for the Lady Eagles was Holly Byrum with 7.
Northeast travels to Elizabeth City Tuesday to take on the Albemarle Lady Colts while Ridgecroft travels to Hobgood to face the Lady Raiders on Friday night.
