Windsor man arrested for BE

AHOSKIE – A Windsor man was arrested Sunday for attempting to steal rolls of copper wire from Dominion Power.

Billy Carroll Dickens, 29, of 424 C Republican Road, Windsor, was arrested and charged with felonious breaking and entering and larceny. Dickens is being held in the Hertford County Jail under a $50,000 bond and will make his first court appearance today at 9 a.m.

The Hertford County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 10:37 p.m. Sunday night from Dominion Power located on 304 NC 11 near Ahoskie. The report was of a person being seen near a Dominion Power truck. Officers responded to the call and found a 2001 Dodge Intrepid near the Dominion Power building in the old Roanoke-Chowan Christian Academy parking lot.

Sergeant Will Liverman and Lt. Mike Stephenson entered the Dominion Power building and saw a man crouching down inside near an icemaker. The officers approached the suspect and discovered he had stacked and was attempting to steal four rolls of #4-7 copper wire, valued at $186 and four rolls of #4 Bare solid copper wire, valued at $226.

The suspect works for an electrical company in Rocky Mount.

Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan praised the work of Sgt. Scott Cofield, Deputy Matt Bradley, Deputy Dexter Hayes, Sgt. Liverman, and Lt. Stephenson.
