HC Polar Plunge, Feb. 11

WINTON – The second annual Hertford County Polar Plunge is scheduled for here on Saturday, Feb. 11 at Riverside Restaurant, 335 Tuscarora Beach Road, Winton.
The plunge, which benefits Hertford County Special Olympics, will take place at 12:30 p.m. Registration begins at 11 a.m.
There are three ways to register:
By mail: Mail completed registration form and check (no cash, please) to: Lauri Heckler, c/o CS Brown HS, 102 CS Brown Drive, Winton, NC 27986
In person: Drop off completed registration form and check (no cash, please) at Hertford Co. HS, CS Brown HS, Early College HS or Riverview Elementary main offices.
The day of the event: Bring cash or check beginning at 11 a.m. There will be registration forms at the site.
Each participant is asked to raise $35. Solicit contributions from family, friends, businesses, employers, etc.
At the plunge, participants can either choose to simple stick their toes in the water or venture out waist deep in the Chowan River. Either way, be advised to wear old shoes. Costumes are encouraged.
All participants will be asked to sign a RELEASE FROM LIABILITY FORM the day of the event. Participants under the age of 18 are required to have their parent(s) sign the form.
Bring friends to hold your towel, enjoy the fun and share in the coolest event in the county.
The event will also include a Chinese auction, door prizes and raffles. Great food will be available at Riverside Restaurant.
The 1st Annual Polar Plunge was a resounding success. Through the support of corporate sponsorship and over 100 plungers, local athletes were able to attend practices, regional and state events in the sports of Track and Field, Volleyball and Bowling. The athletes and volunteers represented the county well by bringing back medals and memories to last a lifetime.
