MERRY HILL – There were a couple of lists Alan Spencer wanted to add to Friday night.

His career win list, the total of victories posted by Lawrence Academy or even the upsets pulled by the Warriors.

The one list he absolutely couldn’t afford to add to was the only one he did – the injured list.

Jay Spencer (ribs) and Zack White (knee) both went down in the first half of the Warriors’ 56-0 loss to Trinity Christian.

Those two joined Ben Blowe (hand) and Frank Baker (rotator cuff) out of the game. In addition to those four, Spencer had Andrew Krawczyk (knee) and Jobie Thomas (ankle) playing hurt.

&uot;Injuries really hurt us tonight, but we never quit,&uot; Spencer said. &uot;I feel like we came a long way tonight.&uot;

Injuries or no, the Warriors were no match for Trinity last night as the Crusaders scored on their first three plays from scrimmage and built a 22-0 lead from which they never looked back.

After forcing a Lawrence to punt on their first possession, Trinity set up shop at the Lawrence 34-yardline. On the first play from scrimmage, quarterback Walter Williams connected with Maurice Marley on a 34-yard scoring strike. Terrance Robinson added the conversion and Trinity led 8-0.

On the next possession, the Crusaders held Lawrence to a fourth-and-5 from their own 42-yardline. The Warriors faked a punt, but Bernard Ferguson knocked away the pass to give Trinity the ball.

Williams then hit Marley with a pass parallel to the line of scrimmage and Marley broke four tackles enroute to a 42-yard score. Michael Farmer tacked on the two-point conversion to give Trinity a 16-0 advantage.

The Warriors again went three and out and were forced to punt.

On the next play, Robinson raced 42 yards to paydirt to extend the Trinity advantage to 22-0 with 5:15 to play in the first quarter.

The Warriors successfully kept Trinity out of the endzone the rest of the quarter, but it took just six ticks off the second period clock before the Crusaders scored again. That score came on a nine-yard pass from Williams to Marley. The conversion again failed and Trinity led 28-0.

Williams was able to find Farmer on a three-yard scoring pass with 6:49 to play in the second period for the final score of the quarter. Williams’ conversion pass to Marley made it 36-0 at the half.

Trinity scored twice in the third quarter, once on a three-yard run by Farmer and once on a 42-yard run by Ferguson to grab a 50-lead.

Lawrence did threaten late in the third period when Krawcyzk’s running and a pair of Trinity penalties moved the ball to the Crusader 33-yardline. On the next play, Warrior quarterback Dusty Todd broke away from a tough Trinity pass rush and ran 13 yards, but a hit separated Todd from the ball and his helmet as Trinity recovered.

The Crusaders scored on a 45-yard run by Farmer with 9:35 to play in the fourth quarter for their final score.

All told, the Crusaders put up 378 yards of total offense on the night, 118 of which came in the first three plays of the game. The Warriors managed just 51 yards of total offense.

Lawrence (0-3) will look for their first win next week when they travel to Wake Christian Friday evening.
