Fannie C. Horton

WILLIAMSTON n Fannie Chamblee Horton, 95, a native of Hertford County, died July 2, 2005 at Williamston Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

A funeral was conducted Friday at Wilder's Funeral Home Chapel, Aulander. Burial was in the Wilder-Cherry Family Cemetery.

Mrs. Horton was a member of New Bethany Baptist Church.

She is survived by one brother, General Chamblee of Harrellsville.

Beulah Spivey

AULANDER n Beulah Donna Norfleet Spivey, 53, a native of Bertie County, died July 4, 2005 at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Church of God in Christ Jesus in Rich Square by Overseer Barney Rogers. Burial will be in Weeping Mary Baptist Church, Lewiston. Wilder's Funeral Home, Inc., Aulander, is in charge.

Mrs. Spivey was the administrator of Mary's Family Care Home, Lewiston. She was a member of Church of God in Christ Jesus, Rich Square.

Survivors include a daughter, Nakeda Spivey of Lewiston; two sisters, Cynthia Carter and Marchella Lee, both of Lewiston; one brother, Ikely Norfleet of Charlotte; and three grandchildren.

Robin H. Carpenter

GARYSBURG – Robin Lynn Hill Carpenter, 31, a native of Portsmouth, Va., died July 3, 2005, in Manteo.

Survivors include her husband, Michael Thomas Carpenter; her daughter, Brooke Michala Carpenter of the home; parents, Fred and Viola Hill of Garysburg; brother, Jeff Hill of Suffolk; and grandparents, Frank and Elizabeth Hill of Garysburg.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Massey Funeral Home in Roanoke Rapids, by the Rev. Larry Obrien. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to The Brooke Michala Carpenter Education Fund, c/o BB&T, 1583 E. Tenth St., Roanoke Rapids, NC 27870.

Ella Mae Worrell

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Ella Mae Worrell, 86, a native of Como, died June 30, 2005, in Maryview Medical Center.

She had worked for more than 30 years for I.C. Norcom High School as a food service assistant. She was a member of New First Baptist Church Taylorsville, Portsmouth. Survivors include three sons, George Worrell of Portsmouth, Oscar Worrell of Suffolk and Willie Worrell of Brooklyn, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in New First Baptist Church Taylorsville by the Rev. Marcus A. Brown. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Roy E. Ball, Sr.

WINDSOR n Roy Elmer Ball, Sr., age 84, of Windsor, NC, died July 6, 2005 at his residence.

Mr. Ball was born August 23, 1940 in Sullivan County, Tennessee, the son of the late Roy James and Ollie Barrett Ball. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Joe Garris and Ann Martin.

Mr. Ball was a truck driver by trade and lived in Aulander for many years.

Survivors include two daughters, Denise Morton of Gray, Tenn., and Rose Lee Hensley of Bristol, Tenn.; four sons, Roy Elmer Ball, Jr. of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Barry Michael Sullivan of Cleveland, Tenn., Richard Elliott Ball of Powellsville, NC, and Ryan Edison Ball of Windsor, NC; a sister, Lucille Johnson of Kingsport, Tenn.; five brothers, Charles, Larry, Ronnie and David Ball, all of Kingsport, Tenn., and Fred Ball of Rogersville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Michael, Jessica and Cody Sullivan, Makayla, Brandon and Lindsey Ball, Haley Spivey Ball, and Zachariah and Jourdian Hensley.

Graveside services will be held, Saturday, July 9, 2005 at 11 a.m. at Aulander Cemetery with the Rev. Stephen Evans officiating. Burial will follow the service.

The family received friends at Massey Funeral Home in Aulander, NC, Friday from 7 until 8:30 p.m.

ROCKY MOUNT n Rendell Wilkins, 44, died July 5, 2005 at Washington Hospital Center, Washington, D.C.

A visitation will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at New Bethel Free Will Baptist Church, Rocky Mount. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Pineview Cemetery by the Rev. Bowser. H.D. Pope Funeral Home is in charge.

Vallie Jordan

ROCKY MOUNT n Vallie Jordan, 73, died July 4, 2005 at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount.

A visitation will be held Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Rocky Mount Chapel of H.D. Pope Funeral Home. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at The New Morning Star Church of Christ Disciples of Christ in Rocky Mount by Bishop Haywood Parker. Interment will be in Gardens of Gethsemane. H.D. Pope Funeral Home is in charge.

Charles and Phyllis Dennis

GATES – Charles Wayne Dennis and his wife, Phyllis Mae Cochran Dennis, both 63, of Sawyer Road, died July 5, 2005, in their home.

Mr. Dennis was born in Georgetown, S.C., and retired as a chief from the U.S. Navy. He saw duty in Vietnam. Following military duty, he was a 20-year employee of VSE in Chesapeake.

Mrs. Dennis was born in McComas, W.Va., and was a lead banquet server at the Chesapeake Conference Center.

Survivors include their daughter, Mary Renee Geddings; a son, Michael Wayne Dennis of Virginia Beach; and six grandchildren.

Mr. Dennis is also survived by his mother, Nollie Etta Howell Dennis and a brother, Alton Dennis, both of Conway, S.C.

Mrs. Dennis is also survived by six sisters and four brothers.

A joint funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville. Burial with military rites will follow in the Gatesville Cemetery.

Friends may join the family following the graveside rites in the funeral home and all other times at the home of their daughter, 64 Sawyer Road, Gates.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gates County Sheriff's Dept. in appreciation for the wonderful support and service given them.

Flora Cleveland

MAPLETON n Flora Cleveland, 75, of Mapleton died July 7, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A native of Hertford County, Cleveland was a retired nurse and a member of Parker's Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include three brothers, Johnnie Gatling of Murfreesboro and James and Emmanuel Gatling, both of New York; and six sisters, Elizabeth Porter and Margie Stephenson, both of Murfreesboro, Lois Gatling, Annie Parker and Armenthia Gatling, all of Mapleton, and Onethia Manley of Ahoskie.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 11 at Parker's Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Mar Speller officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Frances T. Lassiter

Frances Terry &uot;Fruzzie&uot; Lassiter, 66, of the 800 block of St. John-Millennium Road died July 8, 2005 in her home.

Mrs. Lassiter was a born in Bertie County, a daughter of the late Lester K. and Estelle Minton Terry. She was a retired school bus driver and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday July 10 at Garrett Funeral Home, Ahoskie, with the Rev. Bob Skeens officiating. Burial will follow in Job Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Glenn Lassiter; a daughter, Charlotte Council and her husband, John of Statesboro, Ga.; a son, Brent Lassiter and his friend, Amy of Franklin, Va.; three sisters, Rita Morris and friend, David of Seaford, Va., Brenda Brooks and husband, Bobby of Aulander, Laverne Dempsey and husband, Connie of Painter, Va.; a brother, Alex Terry and his wife, Sue of Aulander, eight grandchildren, Jason, Dustin, Holly, Bethany, Autumn and Ethan Council, Kendal and Travis Lassiter and their mother, Shari, and a loving pet, Rambo.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday and other times at the home.

Leon Flythe

MILWAUKEE n Leon Flythe, 74, died Thursday, July 7, 2005 at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.

He had been preceded in death by his parents, W.M. and Elma Flythe; a daughter, Julia Ann Flythe; and four brothers, Larry, Travis, Simon and Tony Flythe.

A native of Northampton County, he was co-owner of Flythe Brothers, Inc. in Conway and was a farmer.

He was a lifelong member of Zion United Methodist Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir and had held most of the church offices.

Survivors include his wife and 55 and one-half years, Doris Dawson Flythe, originally from Spivey's Corner; two daughters, Sandra F. Boone and her husband, Otis, and Catherine F. Hatcher and her husband, James, of Milwaukee; and three sons, Joseph Flythe and his wife, Wanda, Michael W. Flythe and his wife, Tina, and Blake Flythe and his wife, Melinda, all of Milwaukee.

Also surviving are three granddaughters, Ashley Flythe, Camren Flythe and Alyssa Flythe of Milwaukee; two grandsons, Lee Flythe of Austin, Tx. and Justin Flythe of Greenville; one sister, Jeanette Wheeler of Hampton, Va. and one brother, Willie M. Flythe Jr. of Kingsport, Tn.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. at Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. Sid Collins. Burial will follow in the Milwaukee Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the family's home.
