Stella B. Hall
GATES n Stella Barnes Hall, 82, a native of Gates County, died June 21, 2005 at Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.
A funeral will be conducted at 12 noon Thursday at Lebanon Grove Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Williams and the Rev. Lycurgus Harrell. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday and the family will be at the home of the deceased. Stallings Funeral Chapel, Gatesville, is in charge.
She is survived by a sister, Gertrude Hudson of Waterbury, Conn.
William A. Moore
ELIZABETH CITY n The Rev. William A. Moore, 77, a native of Perquimans County, died June 24, 2005 at Guardian Care Nursing Home, Elizabeth City.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church, Martin Luther King St., Elizabeth City, by the Rev. John W. Felton. Burial will be in New Oak Grove Cemetery, Elizabeth City. A visitation will be conducted from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family will be at the home of the deceased. Stallings Funeral Home is in charge.
Survivors include his wife, Olivia Moore of the home; four daughters, Valeria Moore, Sandra Cooper and Evoria Turner, all of Elizabeth City and Cynthia Moore of Fort Bragg; two sons, Calvin Moore of Elizabeth City and Bradford Moore of Waterbury, Conn.; one sister, Mildred Burrus of Elizabeth City; four brothers, Willie M. Moore of Newark, NJ, Roy L. Moore and Curtis Moore, both of Elizabeth City and Isaiah Moore of Virginia; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Lawrence Askew
ELIZABETH CITY – Lawrence &uot;L.C.&uot; Askew, 76, a native of Northampton County, died June 25, 2005, in Albemarle Hospital.
Askew was a retired state highway inspector of 42 years, a member of the Eureka Lodge No. 317 AF&AM, and was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Ethel Martin Askew; a daughter, Teresa Askew of Portsmouth; two sons, Tim Askew of Elizabeth City and Dean Askew of Leesburg, Va.; a brother, Elton W. Askew Jr. of Edenton; and five grandchildren.

Sarah S. Waters
PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Sarah Ruth Saunders Waters, a native of Corapeake,
died June 21, 2005, in her home. She was the widow of James L. Waters.
Mrs. Waters was a member of St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Evelyn D. Saunders, the Rev. Helen D. Copeland and Eloise Bryant, all of Portsmouth; six sons, Larry L. Waters of Chesapeake, James L. Waters of Queens, N.Y., Dennis L. Waters, Mike T. Waters, Gregory E. Waters and Ollie A. Waters, all of Portsmouth; two sisters, Lillie B. Turner and Lucille McCollough, both of Portsmouth; 25 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral was conducted Monday in St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church, Portsmouth by Dr. Curtis E. Edmonds Sr. Burial was in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Corprew Funeral Home was in charge. Condolences may be sent to www.corprewfuneralhome.com.
Ralph Conner Sr.
GASTON n Ralph Lee Conner Sr., 76, a native of White Plains, Va., died June 26, 2005 at Halifax Regional Medical Center, Roanoke Rapids.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Massey Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, by the Rev. Craig Perry. Burial will be in Crestview Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Massey Funeral Home, Roanoke Rapids, 7 until 9 p.m. Tuesday and other times at 1110 Georgia Ave., Roanoke Rapids, NC.
Conner retired from Virginia Dept. of Transportation after 27 years. He previously had worked for J.P. Stevens and Company in Roanoke Rapids for many years. He was a member of Park Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Jenkins Conner; a son, Ralph Lee Conner Jr. of Gaston; a daughter, Karen Marie Conner of Candler; four sisters, Susie Pearson of Valentines, Va., Elma Clark of Roanoke Rapids, Thelma Bradley of Gaston and Inetta Epps of Emporia; four grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Edward Lewis
HARRELLSVILLE n Edward Lewis, 63, a native of Hertford County, died June 24, 2005 at his residence.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Lewis. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hunter's Funeral Home, Ahoskie, is in charge.
Lewis was a retired farmer. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.
Survivors include four brothers, Cecil M. Lewis and James R. Lewis, both of Harrellsville, William C. Lewis of Washington, D.C., and Horace E. Lewis of Philadelphia, Pa.; and five sisters, Carolyn Privott, Wanda Leary, Mollie Collins and Brenda Harrell, all of Harrellsville and Viola Lewis of Cary.
Catherine H. Williams
COMO n Catherine H. Williams, 70, a native of Hertford County, died June 27, 2005 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hunter's Funeral Home Chapel, Ahoskie, by the Rev. Lloyd Gatling. Burial will be in Carver's Park Cemetery.
She was a member of Parker's Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Irea H. Gatling of Como and Josephine Pope of Franklin, Va.
Charity Ricks
ROCKY MOUNT n Charity Ricks, died June 27, 2005 at Nash General Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. H.D. Pope Funeral Home is in charge.
Corinne L. Hudson
MURFREESBORO n Corinne Elizabeth Lawrence Hudson, 91, of the 300 block of Carolina Drive, died Sunday, June 26, 2005, after a short illness.
Mrs. Hudson was born in Murfreesboro, a daughter of the late Carl Capehart and Bessie Hancock Lawrence. She was a member of Murfreesboro United Methodist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughters, Susan Hudson Nixon and husband, James I. of Zebulon, NC and Elizabeth Hudson Lester and husband, Lawrence Ted of Meadowview, VA; a sister, Emily Southall Lawrence of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Deborah Frances Nixon of Zebulon, NC, Sarah Southall Nixon of Columbia, NC and Dwight Lawrence Lester of Blacksburg, VA.
Besides her parents, Mrs. Hudson was predeceased by her husband, Dwight Loveland Hudson.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29, 2005, in the Southall-Lawrence Family Cemetery, Murfreesboro, with the Rev. Bob Hagerty, officiating.
The family will assemble at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, prior to services.

Virginia Brittle
WOODLAND n Virginia Pledger Brittle, 83, a life long resident of Northampton County, died Monday, June 27, 2005 at Autumn Care of Roanoke Valley in Rich Square. She had been preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, James E. Brittle.
She was a member of Woodland United Methodist Church for many years, actively serving in the United Methodist Women, and was Past President and Treasurer of the Woodland Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad Auxiliary.
Survivors include a daughter, Ginger B. Priddy of High Point; a son, Tildon Brittle of Greenville; a granddaughter, Michelle Warnock of Raleigh; three grandsons, Zach Priddy of Raleigh, Boyd Brittle of Greenville and Richard Brittle Jr. of Suwanne, GA; and three great-grandsons.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Woodland United Methodist Church by the Revs. Sid Collins and Gray Southern. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery.
The family will be receiving friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway and have requested that anyone wishing to share a memorial gift may do so to the Woodland Rescue Squad, Woodland, NC 27897 or to the Woodland United Methodist Church on Main Street in Woodland.
