A single-vehicle accident claimed the life of an Edenton man here Wednesday afternoon.

According to a report filed by North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper J.V. Reid, Samuel Gene Williams, 31, was travelling north on Blackrock Road shortly before 6 p.m.

The vehicle, a 1992 Honda passenger car, went off the road to the right, struck a tree and came to rest at the point of impact.

Williams, who was wearing a seat belt, died from the injuries he sustained. Speed was not a factor in the accident.

The fatality was the second in Troop A, District II which encompasses Bertie, Gates and Hertford counties and the first in Bertie County in 2012.
