JAMESVILLE – Champions at long last.

Twelve years after beginning their annual participation in the Jamesville Easter Tournament, Lawrence Academy’s 2005 baseball squad did what none of their predecessors could – they became tournament champions.

Delayed since Monday in trying to grab the tournament’s top hardware, Robert Kravitz’s club dominated the host school 13-0 and easily claimed the victory Thursday evening.

&uot;We have been hitting the ball well the last three games,&uot; Kravitz said. &uot;Our pitching has really stepped up for us. We’re clicking at the right time – I just want us to stay that way.&uot;

The Warriors started their scoring onslaught in the first frame. Jacob Harrell and Dusty Todd collected back-to-back hits to set up the first runs. Harrell scored on a passed ball before Todd came around on a Judd Whitehead RBI-single to give Lawrence a 4-0 advantage.

An inning later, Zack White had an RBI-single to score Holden McClenney and put the Warriors up 3-0.

Lawrence then plated eight runs in the third to grab an insurmountable lead. Whitehead got the inning started with a double.

Harrell had an RBI-single while Todd collected a three-RBI double and Andrew Barber added an RBI-double.

Leading 11-0 going into the fourth, the Warriors scored another pair of runs. McClenney and White had back-to-back singles before Todd brought both home with an RBI-double that established the 13-0 win.

Todd led the way for the Warriors, going 3-for-3 on the day with five RBIs and two stolen bases. White was 2-for-2 at the plate with an RBI while Harrell and Whitehead each checked in with a 2-for-3 performance on the day.

Barber pitched three innings for Lawrence, giving up one hit while striking out five. Todd hurled the final two innings, giving up no hits while striking out four.

The win boosts the Warriors to 8-4 overall heading into Monday’s contest with Albemarle. That game finished too late for press time.
