Bertie High School and Hertford County High School are well-represented on the North Carolina Basketball Coaches’ Association All-District teams.

The First Team All-District for the girls in the North Carolina High School Athletic Association Region 1 team includes a player from Bertie High School and Hertford County High School.

Bertie senior Zakkeya Morris was selected to the team as was HCHS junior Brandi Burden. Morris averaged 17.4 points per game, 3.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists while Burden averaged 16.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 7.3 assists.

Rounding out the first team were Jasmine Nixon of Northeastern High School, Katisha Hyman of Southside High School and Mikeara Jordan of Pasquotank County High School.

On the Second Team was a pair of Hertford County players. They included seniors Camaryn Jones and Sherniece Futrell. Northampton-East senior Jomecka Deloatch was also chosen to the Second Team as was Northampton-West standout Tanisha Crossen.

Rounding out the team was Jaylyn Brown of Riverside.

Third Team selections included Te’a Moore-Carver and Shiniqua Gray of Northeastern High School and Chelsey Elliott and Tyanna Green of Pasquotank County High School.

On the boy’s side, Hertford County sophomore Jqwan Ruffin was named First Team All-District. He averaged 15.4 points per game to go with 4.1 rebounds and 3.8 assists.

Also locally, Northampton-West’s Shanquel Watson was selected. He averaged 15 points per game and nine rebounds. Rounding out the First Team were Mikel Harvey of Perquimans County High School, Carl McCray of Plymouth High School and Marcus Freeman of Riverside High School.

Hertford County placed two players on the Second Team. They included Shabazz Atkins and Wayne Simmons, both seniors. They were joined on the squad by LaQuan Boston of South Creek, Brett Forbes of Camden High School and Naquan Gant of Pasquotank County High School.

The Third Team included Northampton County High School – East senior Jamar Williams and two starters from Gates County High School. They included Nathaniel Simpson and Tommy Arline.

Rounding out the Third Team were Chauncey Andrews of South Creek and Jacquan Respass of Pasquotank.

The All-District Teams are sponsored and voted on each season by the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association and covers all 12 districts of the NCHSAA.
