WINDSOR n Bertie High School's varsity club suffered a pair of tough losses here Wednesday night.

The Falcons dropped a 61-53 decision to Pasquotank High School while the Lady Falcons fell 58-44 to the Lady Panthers.

In the varsity boy's contest, Bertie fell behind in the first quarter, trailing 16-10 at the end of the period, and never could recover.

The Falcons trailed 34-25 at the intermission and outscored Pasquotank 18-14 in the third period to trim the deficit to 48-43.

Pasquotank pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Falcons 13-10 to secure the Northeastern Coastal Conference win.

Bertie was led in scoring by Terrell Holley, who had 19 points on the night. Billy McShepherd added 17 while Rwenshaun Miler had nine.

Rounding out the scoring for Bertie were: Kent Bazemore (3), MacQuinton Vinson (2), Roshaun Holley (2) and Casey Owens (1).

The loss dropped the Falcons to 5-5 on the season and 1-2 inside league play.

Bertie's ladies suffered an equally tough evening.

With junior Jessica Breland sidelined due to an injury, the Lady Falcons suffered their first defeat in league play.

Despite having 10 people scoring on the evening, none of the Bertie ladies were able to break double digits.

Quaneisha White led the way for Bertie with eight points while Ashley Berryman had seven and Anquisha Bell added six points.

Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Falcons were Courtney Ransome and Tierra Perry with five points each, Teneshia Muldrow with four points, Ashley Speller (3), and Dana Rodgers, Laquetta Leary and Lakeya Willliams with two each.

Pasquotank jumped out to a 16-4 lead in the first quarter and used that advantage to hold off any Bertie rally.

The Lady Falcons outscored the Pasquotank 15-14 in the second quarter, but still trailed 30-19 heading into halftime.

A 12-12 deadlock in the third quarter didn't get Bertie the help they needed as they dropped to 8-3 on the season. The Lady Falcons are 2-1 inside the Northeastern Coastal Conference.
