WINDSOR – &uot;Oh what a night&uot; best describes the basketball games at Bertie High School here Wednesday.

For the Lady Falcons, it was victory as they defeated Greenville Rose, 67-32.

Alice Bennett coach of the Lady Falcons said, &uot;I knew if the girls stayed focused and played to their potential, we would come away with a win.&uot;

And win they did.

Ashley Berryman led off the assault, putting Bertie on the board first followed by teammate Courtney Ransome who went for two, making the score 4-0.

Then Jessica Breland set the pace by hammering a three pointer followed by two more baskets and teammate Ransome hit one more basket to make the score 13-0 in the first two minutes of play.

The Lady Falcons defense did their job well, holding Rose to only five points in the first period.

Those points came as Lady Rampant Stephanie Murad sunk two foul shots and Samantha Little hit a three pointer.

Running the score up, Satora Swain and Laquetta Leary both hit the mark followed by Anquisha Bell who shot two baskets to make it 19-2.

Breland ended the period, hitting the net to make it 21-5.

The second period began like the first ended with Breland shooting for two.

The Lady Falcons marched on in the second period, increasing their lead as Tierra Perry and Courtney Winborne hit the net for two followed by Berryman, Bell, and Ransome who also scored ending the second period at 37-17.

The Lady Falcons started stretching it out in the third period holding Rose to only nine points.

Breland found the net three times, one shot being a trey while Ransome and Swain chipped in points as Bertie stretched its lead to 48-26.

The fourth period saw Breland shoot nine of her 29 points for the game.

Berryman and Swain both had four points along with Perry who hit the mark to end the game at 67-32.

The boy’s game was just the opposite of the girl’s game as Greenville Rose defeated the Falcons, 87-41.

The game started out as both teams going to the net; Rose scoring first answered by Billy McShepard laying one up for two.

Rwenshaun Miller answered Rose again to make the score 4-4. Then Terrell Holley took the Falcons ahead 6-4.

From there it went downhill for Bertie, as the Rampants scored 12 straight points till McShepard and Miller stepped up and found the net to slice the Falcons deficit to 19-12.

Greenville ended the first period with a 23-12 advantage.

Kenneth Bazemore opened up the second period hitting the mark along with McShepard following him with another.

Trailing 33-20, Casey Owens finds the net after Bazemore and McShepard blocked four shots by Rose, but that 33-22 score was as close as it got for the Falcons as Rose ended the period on an 11-2 run for a commanding 44-24 lead.

The Rampants stifled Bertie in the third quarter, holding the Falcons to only five points while padding their lead to 68-29.
