Hattie S. Falice

AHOSKIE – Hattie Smith Falice, 77, a native of Southampton County, Va., died October 29, 2004 at Pitt Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral was conducted Tuesday at Second Baptist Union Church by the Rev. Dennis Slade. Burial was in the Falice family cemetery, Ahoskie. Hertford County Undertakers, Winton, was in charge.

Survivors include her husband, Linwood Falice of Ahoskie; children, Gloria Slade of Temple Hill, Md., Margie Joyner and Sharon Holloman, both of Ahoskie, Evelyn Stewart of Newport News, Va. and Brenda Askew of Hopewell; two sisters, Marion Austin of Roanoke, Va., and Ida Ivey of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Willie L. Smith of Roanoke; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Jeremiah B. Taylor

WINDSOR – Jeremiah &uot;Burt&uot; Burton Taylor, 22, a native of Martin County, died November 1, 2004, in Pitt Memorial Hospital.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Walker Funeral Home, Windsor, by the Rev. Robbie Parker. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to either the Windsor Fire Department, PO Box 805, Windsor, NC 27983 or the Bertie County Rescue Squad, PO Box 74, Windsor, NC 27983.

Taylor was employed by Triangle Peanut Research Station and was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, Williamston.

Survivors include his mother, Ellen Nicholson Taylor; his father and stepmother, Frank and Pat Taylor, all of Williamston; maternal grandmother, Dolly Bowen Nicholson of Williamston; his granny, Katherine G. Hale of Windsor; half sister, Mary Frances Taylor of Windsor; stepsister, Colby Riggins of Greenville; and two stepbrothers, Chase Riggins of Greenville and Lars Riggins of Wilmington.

Ruth Jenkins

WOODLAND – Ruth Jenkins, 75, a native of Northampton County, died November 1, 2004 at her residence.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jerusalem Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Ashe. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

She was a retired seamstress for Rollic, Inc., and a member of Jerusalem Baptist Church. She was also a deaconess and member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include five sons, Raymond Jenkins of Bridgeport, Conn., Fred Jenkins and Wallace Jenkins, both of Woodland, Godfrey Jenkins of Upper Marlboro, Md., and Antoine Jenkins of Fayetteville; four daughters, Betty Landrum and Vicky Jenkins, both of Woodland, Stella Jenkins of Winston-Salem and Shawansa Turner of Statesville; two sisters, Dorothy Weaver of Murfreesboro and Elizabeth Edwards of Washington, D.C.; 16 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.

Ionia Deloatch

JACKSON – Ionia Deloatch, a native of Northampton County, died October 29, 2004 at Halifax Memorial Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Allen Chapel AME Church, Jackson. Burial will be in the Deloatch family cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge.

She was a member of Allen Chapel AME Church.

Survivors include six sons, Clarence, Theotis, Curtis and James Deloatch, all of Jackson, William and Robert Deloatch, both of New Jersey; and one daughter, Elizabeth Deloatch of New Jersey.

Robert Sessoms

ROCKY MOUNT – Robert Sessoms, 54, died November 1, 2004 at Nash General Hospital, Rocky Mount.

Rose Donkin

PENNSYLVANIA – Rose Goodwin &uot;Goodie&uot; Holloman Donkin, 81, a native of Ahoskie, and formerly of Washington, died October 31, 2004, in Anderson Personal Care Home, West Finley. She is the widow of Billy Richard Donkin.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at William G. Neal Funeral Home, Ltd., 925 Allison Ave., by Rick Bruckner. Burial will be in Washington Cemetery. Additional information and guest book available online at www.NealFuneralHome.com .

She was a graduate of Chowan and had worked for the United States Navy for three years prior to moving to Pennsylvania. Later she worked as a secretary at Washington Hospital for 30 years prior to retiring. She was a member of the Abundant Life Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Edward Donkin of Washington and Bill Donkin of Daytona Beach, Fla.; a daughter Anna Leigh Courson of Marietta, Ohio; a brother Lyndon Earl Holloman of Williamsburg, Va.; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

James J. Perkins

GATES – James Jerry Perkins, 50, a native of Chesapeake, Va., died October 31, 2004.

A celebration of life service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday at Parr Funeral Home by the Rev. David Dillon. Interment will be private. Friends may join the family for a time of fellowship one hour prior to the service and other times at the residence.

Perkins was a self-employed master mechanic, specializing in trucks and heavy equipment.

Survivors include his wife, Amy Jo Perkins of Gates; sons, Bradley J. and Matt E. Perkins, both of Gates; mother, Mamie L. Perkins; and a brother, John E. Perkins Jr.

David W. Bishop

RALEIGH – David Wendell Bishop, 83, died October 28, 2004 at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD. He was the widower of Wilhelmina Williams Bishop.

A visitation will be held at 12 noon on Friday with funeral services immediately following at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 101 South Wilmington Street, Raleigh. Interment will be in at Mount Hope Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Pricilla Cunningham, 215 Northbrook Drive in Raleigh. Lightner Funeral Home, 312 Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, Raleigh, is in charge.

Bishop grew up in Rich Square where he graduated from W.S. Creecy High School. After serving in Europe in World War II, he earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history and political science from Howard University and later his doctorate in American History from Catholic University. He was a retired college professor. Dr. Bishop taught history in two North Carolina universities, Fayetteville State University and North Carolina Central University.

He is survived by a sister, Georgia Bishop Whitted, of Silver Spring, MD.

Estella L. Freeman

WINDSOR – Estella L. Freeman, 79, died October 31, 2004 at Three Rivers Health and Rehabilitation Center.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Saint Luke Baptist Church. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Windsor. Gilliam Funeral Home is in charge.

Alice Jones

WINTON – Alice Jones, died November 1, 2004 at Three Rivers Nursing Home, Windsor.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Philippi Baptist Church by the Rev. Elton Hall. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Mrs. Jones was a member of Philippi Baptist Church, Cofield.

Survivors include two sons, Steven and Ricky Jones, both of Winton; two daughters, Wanda Jenkins of Kinston and Julia Jones of Winton; one sister, Eunice Newsome of Portsmouth, Va.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Clarence L. Clark

AHOSKIE – Clarence L. Clark, died October 31, 2004 at Roanoke-Chowan Hospital, Ahoskie.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at New Ahoskie Baptist Church by the Rev. Patrick Young. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Clark was a member of New Ahoskie Baptist Church, its usher and senior usher board.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Lassiter Clark of Ahoskie; one son, Gregory Clark of St. Paul, Minn.; a daughter, Valeria Jenise Clark of Durham; and four grandchildren.

Margaret J. Twine

ASTORIA, N.Y. – Margaret Jean Twine, 53, a native of Bertie County, died November 1, 2004 at Mt. Sinai Hospital, Manhatten.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Conoconary Baptist Church by the Rev. Robert Wilson II. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Hunter’s Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Mrs. Twine was a member of Bread of Life Family Worship Center.

Survivors include her husband, Jessie Ray Twine of Astoria; two daughters, Jacqueline Dudley of Ahoskie and Stephanie Felicia Twine of New York; four brothers, Melvin Dudley of Jamaica, Richard Dudley of Manhatten, Johnnie Dudley of Newark, NJ and Donald Dudley of Neptune, N.J.; three sisters, Diane Powell of Newark, Minister Theresa Gaskins of Jamaica and Annette Smallwood of Newport News, Va.
