Daniel…come home

To the Editor:

Thank you for publishing the information regarding my brother, Daniel McCoy Moses, on March 23 and 29, 2012.  At this point, any and all media coverage is helpful as we pray for information leading to his whereabouts.

It is hard to walk among the living and not know where our brother has been for the last nine months. What is even harder is to see our mother waiting for her child to come home.  My mother misses her oldest son. She looks out the window and says “Where is Daniel?”  I can only say. “I do not know Ma, but we will find out what happened to him. I promise” It hurts when I say “I promise” because the clock is ticking faster than the answers are coming in.

On June 16, 2012 my brother, Leon called me; desperately trying to reach Daniel because the house which Daniel lived in was on fire.  At that moment, the place my grandfather purchased for his family in the 1950’s and where three generations of our family once lived and visited was gone.  We had no idea that my brother was gone too. Our first concern was finding Daniel to help him get settled in a place to live and get re-established.  Little did we know that we’d still be looking for our brother Daniel nine long months later.

For the Moses family, the hour his house burned down turned into days. The days turned into weeks and the weeks into months. The months will turn into a year in two months and my mother is still waiting for her child to come home.

This is what I know:

Daniel Moses weighed over 200 pounds and has a black belt, so he would not have been overpowered easily.  He lived in peace in that house for six years and no one has bothered him or anyone in this family.  I know that if Daniel was alright, he would have called us. I know that if Daniel was on vacation, he would have told my mother if he did not tell anyone else.

I do not believe that it was a coincidence that the house burned to the ground. I believe that someone harmed my brother and burned the house to cover the crime.

I do know that the SBI and Sheriff’s Department  has no intention of giving up on the leads that we have to date. I know that this will not become a COLD case as long as MY blood is WARM.

Sam (his nickname) where ever you are, know that your little sister and other siblings are praying for you. Know that we are looking for you with all the love and strength we have inside of us; with God’s help.  Ma is praying for you Sam. Your son and grandson want you to come home.  Do not feel alone, we are with you until the end of time.    “You are not heavy, you are our brother”
