AHOSKIE – Construction is nearing completion on Ahoskie Housing Authority’s newest housing development.

Located off Pierce Avenue, Creekwood Court Apartments is a new, 20-unit complex, constructed with financing through USDA Rural Development. The $1.4 million project will feature two, three and four bedroom units. Handicap accessible units are also available.

The complex will also feature a small laundry area and a managerial office.

Weaver/Cooke Inc. of Greensboro, the firm responsible for constructing the apartment complex, has completed the majority of their work.

Creekwood Court Apartments are unique in the fact that they were constructed for agricultural workers. The facility was designed specially for farm/labor workers, simply due to the fact that the Ahoskie, Hertford County and Roanoke-Chowan area still remains largely agricultural in nature.

Those qualifying for housing at Creekwood Court include those offering labor in the areas of cultivating the soil, raising or harvesting any agriculture or aquaculture commodity, or is involved in catching, netting, handling, planting, drying, packaging, storing or preserving, in an unmanufactured state, any type of agriculture or aquaculture commodity.

Additionally, these apartments are available to anyone involved in the delivery or as a carrier, to a market or storage facility, of an agriculture or aquaculture commodity. Only those eligible applicants who work in or are retired from farm/labor employment will be considered for admission.

Applications are currently being taken at the Ahoskie Housing Authority Office, located at 200 Pierce Ave. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
