Hey there Hawks fans!

Thanks to all that came to support our annual Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Auction.  The event was well attended, entertaining, and a fun way to raise some money for our end of the year banquet.

Congratulations to Liz Hipple from the softball team, and Justin Bagbey from the baseball team.  Both were named CIAA Players of the Week for their performance last week.  Coach Taylor Furlough was named baseball Coach of the Week as well.  Bagbey hit four homeruns in two days against Elizabeth City State and St. Andrews.  Liz Hipple was 5-for-6 with eight RBI’s against Lincoln University.  Congratulations!

The CIAA released the All-Conference and All-Rookie selections earlier this week.  There were several Hawks that were honored- they are listed below:

BASEBALL: All-Conference: Brett Garrett, John DesChamps, Josh Catalano, and  Brandon Mack.  Second Team: Justin Bagbey.  All-Rookie Team:  Evan Hart and Dallas Perdue.

SOFTBALL: All-Conference: Liz Hipple, Megan Wade, Megan Bass, and Lacey Wildeboer.  Second Team: Alex Allen and Amber Matthews.  All-Rookie Team: Leigh Ward.

MEN’S TENNIS: All-Conference: Adam Moneypenney and Bjorn Blythe.

WOMEN’S TENNIS: All-Conference: Natalya Kamenshichikova.

Congratulations Hawks!

The softball, baseball, and tennis teams are at the CIAA Spring Sports Championships in Petersburg, Virginia this weekend.   The baseball team opened up the tournament with an 8-0 win against Virginia State University.  Brett Garrett pitched a four hit shut out to earn the opening win for the Hawks.

The softball team won a thriller 7-6 game over Johnson C. Smith.  Liz Hipple hit a walk-off, two run double with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to clinch the opening round.  The Hawks dropped a 1-0 game against Virginia State, and will have to battle out of the loser’s bracket to stay alive in the tournament.

The men’s tennis team picked up a 5-0 win over Lincoln University in the opening round in the tournament.  The women’s team dropped a close 5-4 match against Johnson C. Smith.

Good Luck to all teams competing in the CIAA Spring Sports Championships this weekend.

The Athletic Department is set to host the 14th annual Girls and Women in Sport Day next Friday.  This is a great opportunity for young athletes to meet and learn from current CU student-athletes.   For more information visit www.gocuhawks.com.

Go HAWKS.
