Hettie N. Byrum

GATES – Hettie Nixon Byrum, 85, a native of Chowan County, died January 18, 2004, in her home. She was the widow of Selby Lee Byrum.

A funeral will be conducted at

2 p.m. Tuesday in Middle Swamp Baptist Church by the Rev. Billy Presley and the Rev. Tom Caulkins. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is in charge. Memorial contributions may be made to University Hospice, Myers Street, Ahoskie, NC 27910 or to Middle Swamp Baptist Church.

Mrs. Byrum was a homemaker, she had also worked as a cashier at F.W. Woolworths in Suffolk and was a member of Middle Swamp Baptist Church.

Survivors include three daughters, Sara Byrum Chappell of Gates, Carolyn Byrum of Edenton and Ann Byrum Hand of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Annie Mary Harrell of Edenton and Helen Harrell of Gates; a brother, Robert Nixon of Edenton; six grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Rosie B. Long

SEABOARD – Rosie Barnes Long, 96, a former resident of Portsmouth, Va., died January 18, 2004, at Halifax Regional Medical Center. She was the widow of Kenneth &uot;Mac&uot; Long.

Mrs. Long was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth A. Long of Portsmouth; a grandson; and

a great-granddaughter.

A funeral will be conducted at

2 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Carmel Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Thomason. Burial will be in the Barnes family cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mount Carmel Baptist Church, c/o Evelyn Stephenson, 3987 Mount Carmel Road, Jackson, NC 27845. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Massey Funeral Home, Jackson.

Carrie R. Collins

HOBBSVILLE – Carrie Rountree Collins, 97, a native of Gates County, died January 16, 2004. She was the widow of James Victor &uot;Vic&uot; Collins.

A funeral was conducted Sunday in Hobbsville Baptist Church by the Rev. Tim Dannelly and the Rev. Terry Jones. Burial was in the family cemetery near the homeplace. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, was in charge. Memorials may be made to Hobbsville Baptist Church, Hobbsville, NC 27946.

Mrs. Collins was a retired teacher from the Hobbsville and Sunbury schools, she was a member of Hobbsville Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, J.V. Collins of Richmond, Va., and Bill Collins of High Point; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Idaluah Riddick

AHOSKIE – Idaluah Lassiter Riddick, a native of Hertford County, died January 18, 2004, in Durham.

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Second Baptist Union Church by the Rev. Melvin Lyttle. Burial will be in the Lassiter family cemetery. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include three sons, Jesse Riddick of New York, Vernon Riddick of Durham and the Rev. S. Curtis Riddick of Ahoskie; four daughters, Peggy Vann of Ahoskie, Janie Harrell of Durham, Frances Mizzell of Decatur, Ga., and Helen Gamble of Charlotte; two sisters, Earline Watford of New York and Cynthia Stokes of Baltimore, Md.; and 15 grandchildren.
