Charles P. Burden

MURFREESBORO – Charles Preston &uot;Buddy&uot; Burden, 53, died October 23, 2003, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Aulander First Baptist Church by the Rev. Lebron Britt. Burial will be in the Wilder-Cherry Family Cemetery. Wilder’s Funeral Home, Aulander, is in charge.

Burden was a retired truck driver. He was a member of St. John Second Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Alice M. Burden of District Heights, Md., and Gloria J. Burden of Aulander; two brothers, Clarence E. Burden and Alphonso Burden, both of Aulander; three stepchildren, Brenda Langford of Murfreesboro, Cheryl Williams of Woodland and Addrian Bishop of Hampton, Va.; and five stepgrandchildren.

Brack Sessoms Sr.

CHESAPEAKE, Va. – Brack G. Sessoms Sr., died October 24, 2003, at his residence.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Reynolds Funeral Home, Inc., Ahoskie, is in charge.

Survivors include a son, Brack Sessoms Jr. of Chesapeake; a daughter, Eunice Brandon of Fort Washington, Md.; two brothers, Simon Sessoms of Portsmouth and John Sessoms of Powellsville; and three grandchildren.

Winnie Pugh

WINDSOR – Winnie Pugh, died October 24, 2003, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital, Greenville.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Lewiston, by the Rev. James Jones. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A wake will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home chapel. The family will be receiving friends and guest at the home on 1235 Republican Road. Gilliam Funeral Home is in charge.

Russell P. Moore

WINDSOR – Russell Paige Moore, 88, a native of Craven County, died October 26, 2003, at the Brian Center.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Cashie Baptist Church by the Rev. Dennis Conner. Entombment will be in Edgewood Cemetery. Walker Funeral Home is in charge. Flowers are welcome or memorial gifts may be made to Cashie Baptist Church Memorial Fund, 221 South Queen St., Windsor, NC 27983.

Moore was a member of Cashie Baptist Church, a third degree mason and a member of Charity Lodge A#5. He was also a retired part owner and operator of Southeastern Lumber Company.

Survivors include his wife, Alma White Moore; a daughter, Ann M. Stephenson of Smithfield; a sister, Myrtle M. Joyner of Wilson; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

Patricia S. Dunlow

WINDSOR – Patricia Smithwick Dunlow, 69, a native of Bertie County, died October 26, 2003, at the Brian Center.

A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Walker Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Edgewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Dunlow was retired from Roanoke-Chowan Hospital as a registered nurse and was former owner of Pat’s Beauty Shop.

Survivors include her husband, McDonald &uot;Mack&uot; Dunlow; two daughters, Cindy Dunlow and Trisha Dunlow, both of Fuquay-Varina; a son, Kim Dunlow of Windsor; two sisters, Hazel S. McLane of Elizabeth City and Kay S. Simmons of Windsor; a brother, Allen &uot;Bud&uot; Smithwick of Franklin, Va.; and one grandchild.

Alyse H. Womble

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Alyse H. Womble, 81, a native of Bertie County, died October 25, 2003. She was the widow of O. Jordan Womble Jr.

A graveside funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Terry Taylor in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth. Those so desiring may make memorial donations to a charity of their choice.

Mrs. Womble retired from civil service, NAVSEADET, Naval Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility, as a financial analyst. She was involved with numerous civic and community efforts. She was a tireless volunteer worker for the March of Dimes, during the postwar period, and served as local chairman. She assisted in planning the Nannie Bland David Missionary Circles for the 35 Baptist churches in the city, and served as president. She became a member of Port Norfolk Baptist Church in 1930, and was active in BYPU, Girls Auxiliary, Summer Camps, and Senior Adult Groups. She was active in Town-N-Gown, an organization of Old Dominion University, Woman’s Club of Portsmouth, a member of NARFE 1293, AARP and Portsmouth Scottish Rite Ladies.

Survivors include two sons, O.J. Womble III of Wrightsville Beach and William L. Womble of Portsmouth; a sister, Jean Racz of Portsmouth; and a granddaughter.

Marguerite L. Davis

CONWAY – Marguerite L. Davis, 90, a native of Franklin, Va., died October 23, 2003 at the IHS Nursing Facility in Rocky Mount. She was the widow of Grady P. Davis Sr.

A memorial service was held at Conway Baptist Church in Conway Sunday Pastor Willie McLawhorn. Burial was in Conway Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mr. and Mrs. Grady P. Davis Sr. Scholarship at Chowan College, 200 Jones St., Murfreesboro, NC 27855. Wheeler & Woodlief Funeral Home, 1130 N. Winstead Ave., Rocky Mount, NC 27804, was in charge.

Mrs. Davis was a member of Conway Baptist Church, a graduate of Chowan College in Murfreesboro, N.C., and later served on the board of trustees for several years. She was also a graduate of the Medical College of Virginia School of Nursing in Richmond and had a brief nursing career in New York City and was the Edgecombe County Health Nurse before becoming a mother of three children and a housewife in Conway.

Survivors include her sons, Grady P. Davis II of Rocky Mount, William K. Davis of Wilmington and W. Frank Davis of Wilmington; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild
