WINDSOR – Two people have already filed to seek seats on the Bertie County Board of Education.
Neither is an incumbent.
Monday, retired Bertie Early College High School Principal Bobby Occena filed for the District 1 seat on the board. That seat is currently held by Pamela Chamblee, who has not filed as of Wednesday.
Tuesday, a second challenger filed as Tarsha Bush Dudley filed for the District 5 seat. Board chair Gloria Lee currently holds that spot. Lee, a three-term incumbent, had also not filed as of Wednesday.
The Bertie County Board of Elections opened filing at 12 noon Monday. It will continue through 12 noon Friday, July 6. Those wishing to seek one of the seats that are open must report to the elections office on Watson Street and fill out appropriate paperwork and pay the election fee.
Also, filing is held at exactly the same time for the position of Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor. That seat is currently held by John M. Griffin.
No one has filed for the position at this time.
