MURFREESBORO – Margaret Elizabeth Hamlin Johnson, 98, passed away in her home of natural causes in the presence of her Lord in the morning of June 24, 2010.
She was born November 5, 1911 in Wakefield, VA to her parents C. Thomas (Tom) Hamlin Sr. and Margaret Savedge Hamlin. She was the second child of two brothers and two sisters, the late Mary Virginia Hamlin, the late Charles Thomas Hamlin, Jr. and is survived by Richard William (Bill) Hamlin of Astor, Florida and Rosalie Anne Hamlin Parrot of Midland, Texas.
While attending Duke University for nursing, she met the late F. Roy Johnson Sr. who she married in 1933. In Murfreesboro, they had their third child, Charles where Margaret lived out her years. Roy sold the newspaper business and started writing and printing books in 1960. Margaret enjoyed writing and helped proof many of her husband’s books until his death in 1988. She was a devoted member of the Murfreesboro United Methodist Church, and an active member of the Murfreesboro Women’s Club. She also continued to support Roy’s work after his death through the North Carolina Folk Lore Association and Murfreesboro Historical Association.
