Ahoskie seniors fall

WILSON – Wilson swept a Senior American Legion contest over Ahoskie Post 102 here Sunday.

The home team won game one by a count of 5-4 before stopping Post 102 by a count of 10-4 in the second contest.

In the first game, Wilson scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth frame.

After four innings, the home team had built a 3-0 advantage.

In the top of the fifth, Ahoskie pushed across its first run.

Tyler Burden singled and moved all the way to third on an error. He then scored on a Clay Robbins RBI-groundout to close the gap to 3-1.

Wilson pushed across another mark in the home half of the fifth and led 4-1.

Ahoskie roared back with three runs in the top of the seventh.

Adison Eure doubled and Burden was hit by a pitch. Billy Nixon then delivered an RBI-single scoring Eure. Burden then came home on a Robbins RBI-single. Nixon came home on a Timmy Whitlow single that tied the game at 4-all.

Wilson went quietly in the bottom of the seventh to force an extra inning, where the home team won the game.

Burden, Whitlow and Nixon all pitched for Ahoskie. Post 102 combined to collect eight hits.

In the second game, Wilson took a 3-0 lead after two innings.

Burden was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored on a Nixon RBI-single.

Wilson, however, scored three times in the bottom of the third and three more in the fourth to claim a 9-1 edge.

Post 102 pushed across three runs in the top of the fifth to close the gap.

Burden tripled and scored on a Daniel Merritt RBI-single. Robbins then walked. Both runners came around to score when Eure doubled to make it 9-4. That was as close as Ahoskie got, however.

In the bottom of the fifth, Wilson scored again and claimed a 10-4 lead from which they never looked back.

Tyler Pryor, Will Glover and Whitlow each saw time on the mound for Ahoskie. Burden and Eure had two hits each to lead Ahoskie.

The losses dropped Ahoskie to 5-11 overall and 4-4 in the conference.

They host Elizabeth City tonight (Thursday). First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
