William Rayford “Billy” Joyner, 77, died Monday, May 3, at his home in Conway after a short illness. A loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather, he was a native of Hertford County and a retiree of Union Camp Corporation in Franklin, Va. where he worked for 36 years in Sheet Finishing. He served his country in the United States Air Force with a tour in Alaska, served as a Commissioner on the Conway Town Board for 10 years, was a charter member of the Conway-Severn Rescue Squad with 20 years of service, and was a 20 year volunteer with the Conway Volunteer Fire Department. As a member of the Conway Baptist Church, he taught a Sunday School class, was Superintendent of Sunday Schools, was a Deacon, and served on the Board of Trustees. A former member of the Conway Ruritan Club, he worked faithfully for 25 years with Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway until his untimely death.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Marjorie Davis Joyner of their home; a daughter, Marjorie Elizabeth Joyner Goodman and husband, Todd, of Atlantic Beach; one grandson, Joshua Ryan Parker of Raleigh; a sister-in-law Blannie Jenkins of Wilson Mills; 3 nephews; one great niece; and two great nephews.
The family will be receiving friends at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway, Wednesday, May 5, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Willie McLawhorn and Rev. James Hester presiding. Burial will follow in the Davis Family Cemetery on Lake Road, Conway.
